Just thought I'd post here. Long time shooter, moved from Edmonton to Toronto a few years ago. Looking for a good range to go to once in a while. I used to go to Phoenix and Wild West in Edmonton (ok Wild West mainly out of convenience lol).

Any suggestions for good ranges here in Toronto for both rifle ranges and handguns/.22LR? (I live downtown Toronto and it seems there's not much of a gun culture in TO as there is back out in Alberta...fortunately, I'm going back to Edmonton for Christmas so I'm looking forward to putting some rounds down range at Phoenix when back).

No gun culture? Ever been to Jane and Finch?

Haha, the Toronto city council was trying to ban the sale or possession of any ammunition within city limits. Good luck on that one.

Welcome

There are a bunch of ranges but it depends what you want to shoot and where you want to drive.

For a good quality but not cheap range for pistol calibres, .22/buckshot/.223 frangible there's Target Sports (sponsor above).

For longer ranges/centrefire, there's clubs such as Sharon (need a share, hard to get) and those in Durham, Burlington, Barrie, Oshawa and a few others but they're a good 1 hour or more out.

Probably the most accessible is Silverdale (on the Niagara escarpment south of Hamilton), which has 200m ranges and a bunch of shorter ranges, including shotgun, pistol and action ranges. It also allows non-members on the weekends for about $20.

Use the search function to find more info - lots of discussion on all these clubs. Just make sure you set the timing on the search to 1 or 2 or 3 years.

Good luck.

What he said. I'll speak only for the clubs I know reasonably well.

If you plan to shoot handgun and rimfire frequently, on more than the same day each week, Target (the club is actually called The Grange) is the only game in town. And it's not really in town... but it's reasonably easily accessible by highway. But it's handgun calibres only.

If you are willing to drive a longer way to get access to a real rifle range, then there are choices as above.

Silverdale is great as an overall club, but not so great for pistol target shooters because the only shooting distance is 25 yards, and targets can't be retrieved mechanically like in an indoor range, so you only have one shooting distance, you can't see your hits well and you have to wait to bring in and replace the targets.

Lol yes Jane & Finch. I hear that place also has a strong knife culture, baseball bat culture, brass knuckle culture as well as guns there lol.

Anyway yeah thanks for the info on Silverdale. I heard it's a good range for rifles but didn't know about the pistol thing. I'll definitely check out Target then, thanks!

Not sure how far you are willing to travel, but I just joined Target Shooting Sports up in Gormley. They have a nice clean facility that is funded by public shooting they put on.

Another option is Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club. Its a nice outdoor range with pistol lanes and rifle lanes. Distances range from 25m, 50m, 200m, and 300m. I always prefer outdoor ranges vs indoor ones. There is no caliber restriction and you can shoot the cheap bimetal rounds that some ranges seem to ban.

If you have an questions feel free to PM.
