FYI, I don't know if this was an isolated incident and I may not have been told an important detail... But leaving the country and keeping a handgun in Canada may not be an option any more.

I was contacted by a person who left to live overseas. He left his guns in storage in Ontario. His license was still valid but the registrar told him they will be expiring his registration certificates because he is not a Canadian resident any more.

Ended up taking his guns into the business registry and after getting the export/import permits sent the guns to him overseas. Point is that while one can maintain a license while not being a resident, there seems to now be boundaries to having registered handguns.

Double check this if it's something you are planning. Storage with a business may be the only option to leave a handgun in Canada (registered to them)

It's a shame. A classic and very old pistol variation no longer made.

Take the 80 bucks and move on.

What's $80 these days? About 1 meal out with the Wife, maybe.

I'd ride it out, and keep something in Canada. Things could change, or maybe not; but once it's gone, how would a guy ever replace it?

It's not about the $80. It's about transferring it to somebody in Canada who may actually get some use out of it and taking your name out of the registry.

I am moving to the states and own a Beretta 95f. Love the gun, but looked into exporting to the US and cost combined with red-tape just tells me to get rid of it then buy once I am there.

I spoke with the CFO to discuss options and she said:

1. Deactivate (~150-200 bucks)
2. Turn in for destruction
3. Sell to a business

I'm not interested in 1 or 2, I'd love to get at least something for it, but I spoke with 2 businesses locally and got offers of 75 and 80 bucks...

Has anyone done this before and found a better way to get more of the value out of their pistol? Feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If you send it to auction, you'll probably get $350 to $600 for it. Pistols are selling for close to pre ban retail at auctions. They get purchased for parts kits, to deactivate, export or to businesses. Lots of people want spare parts for their pistols so they buy them for parts.
