Moving from NL to BC — Looking for my first SKS & local tips (Coquitlam area)

Hey guys,
Just moved to Coquitlam from NL. Updated my PAL address online and now looking to finally buy my first rifle.
Want to grab an SKS (probably a Chinese one). Found a couple of options here on EE, but since it's my first buy, how does the private sale actually work now with the license verification? Just do it through the rcmp portal and that's it?
Also a question about ammo. Surplus is obviously the cheapest option, but I know it's FMJ/steel core. Are there any ranges around Coquitlam/Lower Mainland that actually allow shooting surplus? Or do I have to drive out to crown land for that?
One last thing - my instructor on the CFSC course said I can bring my wife to shoot under my supervision (she doesn't have a PAL). How does that look in reality at local ranges?

Any tips for a newbie would be awesome. Thanks!
 
In terms of bringing guests you have to check the rules of individual ranges. Usually it’s 1, 2 or 3 guests per member maximum. Sometimes ranges don’t want the same guest coming more than a few times before they also need to get a membership as well.

Private purchases are simple. Buyer provides the required info. Seller inputs it through portal and gets a reference number. Seller gives the gun to buyer. Can be easily done in person on a smartphone.

Why in the hell would you move to this socialist utopia? Was it for the crime? The free government fentanyl? How about the rich diversity of the third world? Was it to file a land claim? You crazy to move here …from ANYWHERE!
 
By the way, do you guys know when I'll get access to the EE? I found a nice rifle and want to inquire about it, but it still doesn't allow me to. It's been 3 days and a couple of messages, but still no luck
