Moving to Kitchener - what club would you recommend?

WCRA without a doubt has been the best club for me. I have never been to the Galt club. I've been to the others though.

Good ole boy club, unless you are local hillbily, you are undesirable and strongly discouraged from becoming a member.

If OP is looking for a club free of discrimination, he is well advised to avoid this club at all costs.

Absolutely untrue.

But as it's said everyone is entitled to their opinion. Even if it's wrong.

I hate the fees at Galt, but, it really is a nice place to shoot.

Best to get involved though and meet the people that run the show. You'll get a lot more satisfaction out of the whole thing. The handgun section is definitely on the move in the right direction. The Rifle section has recovered well from the issues that stifled their growth only a few years ago.

With Galt the trick is money up front, and get your name on the lists. You can always join handgun right away, and get on the list for the rifle section. Things are improving at Galt though for black rifle shooters, so, it's not as big a deal anymore.

It is great having a range with distances at 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, & 200 for working with the AR, and also the pistol. The indoor section has just been modernized with a brand new air handling system done correctly, so, to be perfectly honest, for a black rifle/pistol shooter in the KW area, you're simply getting everything at Galt. Unfortunately, it's not cheap.

Then again, $500/year to have access to over 200 acres of full featured range/land/opportunities? No one else touches that. I look at it this way. It only sucks being a member at Galt 1 day of the year. Once you've paid your yearly dues, it's the best club in the country to belong to.

It just sucks having to pay the fees by December 31st. As if I'm not already tapped out by then. But, I usually spend at least double that every year on a new gun, accessories, or ammo.

Galt's really worth it. Now more than ever to be honest. You can pretty much always get out to shoot at the rifle range on the weekends now despite our probationary system, and handgun has a very active membership, which welcomes new members. There are hoops, but, part of it is simply about being social. We're very welcoming.

I shoot at bridgeport. Every club has issues... hard to avoid when you deal with people.

There is a $ 10 fee for guest to shoot. If you would like to drop by to try it out, shoot me a PM.

It depends what your interests are. I have belonged to Galt for many years and at various times also belonged to Twin City Rifle, Colby, Bridgeport and Guelph.

Galt is the first choice for a clay target shooter and respectable for handgun, archery and rifle but it's not inexpensive.

Colby has the best indoor handgun range in the region with the best hours. The membership process wasn't onerous and once you are in the place is pretty much yours 24-7-365. If all I shot was handgun I'd belong there.

Bridgeport is a great club with the friendliest and most down-to-earth membership anywhere. It's also less expensive. Trap is the main sport with some skeet and basic rifle and handgun ranges.

Twin City Rifle is the best choice if you are a rifle shooter. The main attraction is the rifle range up to 300 yards. They have upped their clay target activities recently with the addition of five stand to their established trap and skeet fields. They have a waiting list but no one seems to wait all that long to join.

Guelph is the best spot in the area for IPSC. There is some rifle shooting and some trap but they aren't primary features of the club.
