So we sold our house and just bought a new place in Magnetawan Ontario. Off grid house lots of wilderness all around. Move in October.

I believe it’s WMU 47. Just curious about the hunting in the area, how is it what’s abundant etc. Also what’s the area like in general?

If anyone is local I’m always up for 4 wheeling, cold beer and blowing things up with tannerite lol

Cheers

Awesome bait & tackle shop. Great restaurant that views the water. Eagle Lake Gun Club or Rock Cut might be your best bet to find the information your looking for. Down to ride and grab a beer. Will PM you.

I’m hoping my little oasis won’t have too much competition. But I did notice all my house and my two neighbours houses have antlers on display outside lol

I am a little north east of there in the Almaguin Highlands - South River/Sundridge area.

There are lots of small lakes to explore especially if you have a canoe/kayak.
Miles and miles of lakes by power boat through Ahmic Lake, Cebe Lake, Magnetwan.

We get dumped on for snow in the winter. Put a snowmobile on your your "want" list.

Check out the Copperhead Distillery in Sundridge and the South River Craft Brewery in South River.

The Swiss Country House Restaurant at Ahmic Harbor is a great spot for a special occasion dinner or just because. You can drive there or take the boat.
They specialize in schnitzel. Don't be in a hurry as they make it from scratch. . If you order the 3 pounder and eat it all you get a t-shirt and you photo on the wall!

Good to know on all fronts. And I absolutely love schnitzel!

Yeah a snowmobile is definitely on the list. What about 4 wheeling on the roads through the area.. do the OPP frown on it?

Bear hunting is good. Fishing is decent to exceptional especially on the back lakes. Deer hunting is better and easier in agricultural areas of southern Ontario but the culture/atmosphere is better in 47. A moose tag is like the proverbial fountain of youth - supposedly it exists but nobody i know has ever seen one. Bunnies and grouse are cyclical and can be anything from great to dismal. Waterfowl is pretty decent. Winter is a blast with endless sledding options and good ice fishing if you know where to head.

Best burger in 47 is on 534 in Nipissing Village at Foote's General Store. Made from scratch and ground fresh every day, real cheese and thick fresh fried bacon. I may however be biased as it is only 5 minutes from my place and would be likely an hour or more from Magnetawan.

Best of luck!

In my part of 47 as long as you have a helmet, plate and insurance you are good to go.

I have 100 ac not far from Footes Store in Nipissing. I can vouch for good bergs too. Trackside Fries in Powassan has good burgs as well. Bit of a toss up for me.
