Hi

Im not sure if this is the right forum....

I live in southern Ontario and am thinking of moving to New Brunswick

I hear they really dont like ontarians, is this an issue?

How are the provinces gun laws?

Any comments appreciated

Thank you

Everyone in the rest of Canada hates Ontario and Quebec :) if your from a rural part up north be sure to specify that upon introducing yourself, “hi, I’m joe from northern Ontario, don’t worry, I’m not one of those Toronto people”.

Lots of ranges, no waiting lists, cheap yearly membership. You do need a hunting licence to possess a firearm on crown land. Buy a 15$ varmint licence and go nuts. Some guys on the forum have a melt down over it, but it’s pretty easy to navigate, I frequently camp/hike/shoot with guns on crown land with no real issue. IPSC and rimfire precision sports very popular lately, several clubs also have shotgun sports.

Good morning from northern NB
In my experience most of the "don't like Ontarians" is related to 2 issues: 1. people coming in to rural areas and not having the slightest idea what living outside of a major city is like. (freaking out of the sight of a gun during hunting season be an example)
2. there is a considerable amount of poverty in the rural areas and property prices have been shooting up, so an individual from outside the community that puts big money on a nice local(river front) piece will raise some eyebrows. \
As for gun laws. in NB we still have caliber restrictions during varmint season and you if you take a gun for a walk in the woods you need a valid hunting license in theory there is no plinking on crown land.
In my experience our local gun clubs are a lot cheaper than what you're used to in Ontario ($150 for my club)
feel free to PM me for more specific info

It’s possession in a resort of wildlife without a valid hunting licence that is the offence. There’s no charge for “plinking”. If your legal to have the gun in a resort of wildlife, your legal to shoot it.

Me too coming out on the 5th of August to look around at real estate . Thinking of buying enough land so I can shoot on my own property . Maybe even get an approved range on my own land built

I really liked NB, but would really have to think hard about moving there, because of some of the firearm laws there.

People down here don't mind people from away, it's the ones that come here cause they love it, and then they want to change things, like envoke by laws like no lobster traps in the yard!

YW cheb ty for your interest. Appreciated.

What does your spamming have to do with the original question about Provincial gun laws?

“Mr. 1ABNDT, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”

As for Ontarians in NB, I never seen any issues. Dad moved from Ontario to NB a couple years ago. Biggest thing, that might get you. Is having to inspect your vehicle every 2 years. So your vehicle probably should be in good shape before you plan to register it there.

@1ABNDT, have to agree with OkayShooter your post had nothing to do with the original question about moving to New Brunswick and the provincial gun laws

Perhaps the both of you need to recognize this is the "Greetings" section and not the General Question section.

Hi , welcome to CGN . N.B. has lots of gun clubs and ranges around with very low membership fees ; and access to lots of Crownland for a 15 dollar Varmint License for half the year , and a 16 dollar Small Game License for the other half of the year . Very friendly and down to earth folks for the most part, and a very low crime rate .

New Brunswick is fairly gun friendly. As for being from Ontario I would not worry about it seems like people are coming here from all over the world.
