Moving to the US - what would you get for a concealed carry gun?

Hi folks - newbie here. I'm curious to get your thoughts on this. I'm currently in the process of getting my VISA to move to the US of A from Ontario. The great state of Indiana to be more specific. Once there I'll be able to get a permit for concealed carry. If you were in my shoes, what would you buy once you got there? I'm interested in the Sig P365. It looks like a great carry gun.

the m&p shield is very popular in the U.S.
that being said it's single stack so 8 + 1 capacity.2nd mag that comes with it is 7 + 1.
can get it with or without safety and the shield EZ has a grip safety.also can get it with crimson trace laser built in.

the taurus g3c is very popular lately.
12 + 1 mag capacity, glock style sights and for a striker fired gun 2nd strike capability.also supposed to have a very scratch resistant finish ala glock gen 3.comes out of the box with 3 mags.
very inexpensive gun for the money
downside i found it shot VERY low.

glock 19 or maybe a 26(?)
maybe even a 48 or 43

it's a glock what else needs to be said.
parts available EVERYWHERE.
i can suggest a few places to get parts if you'd like down in 'merica.such as "rock your glock".
recoil gunworks almost always has police tradein glocks.aim surplus used to have great deals on glocks
ammo will be VERY hard to find and EXPENSIVE--like crazy expensive--

Before concentrating on what to buy, try learning whether you can buy.

Reciprocity between states is very important and the state laws change frequently. You may have to satisfy residency requirements for Indiana before you can even apply. Therefore, research if you can qualify ahead of time for a CC, such as by applying for a permit in New Hampshire.

BTW, this is a heavyweight question for someone with 4 posts to ask. So, welcome aboard.

I’m thinking it’d be also good to pose this question on a US gun forum to get input from folks that actually carry.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of research about it. I've already emailed the ATF to clarify the rules around importing my personal collection of guns and ammo. The process to get a CC permit in Indiana looks pretty straight forward. It's free too.

Upon joining this forum and reading the guidance and rules, one thing became very clear... participation is encouraged. I figured I might as well jump right in and see if I can swim. :)

I will definitely be taking a look at a Glock. I don't have one yet but they get a lot of love and I'm curious to try the little Glock 26.
The interesting thing about ammo is that I, coincidentally, stocked up on ammo during Black Friday and Boxing Day sales so unless I do a heck of a lot of shooting before moving down there, I should be in good shape.

In AZ I've CCWd S&W M&P Shield, Glock 43 and P365. The P365 has been my favourite as it is very compact. I actually shoot best with the Shield, though only slightly. I quickly moved to paddle holsters as I found it VERY uncomfortable sitting in a car with a pistol poking me.

No matter what you get, make sure you practice, A LOT. Especially your draw and getting off the X. Also ensure you invest in some courses in CCW and self-defence laws in your State of residence. There can be a LOT of legal pitfalls; especially if you are defending others or property.

This is a very good point. I'm still pretty new with guns in general and I don't want to do something dumb so some education and training will be very high on my list of priorities.
