Hi, guys tried using the search function found a lot of info about. ATT's short term and long term. I'm considering a move that may well be a multi-day move in a couple of years. She's going to transfer to a job out there. I was considering getting a handgun before moving but I'm just wondering what would be involved in moving from Ontario to the west taking about 2-3 weeks (Vacation time) trip depending on the stops the wife and kids wants to make along the way. My understanding is it's not a problem for my Non-Restricted but might be more of an issue for the Restricted firearms. Just wanted to know how you go about it.

I recently took a trip from the East coast to the west coast and back, with a stop in the middle, shooting along the way. The only real bother was that I had to know EXACTLY the addresses that I'd be staying at, plus the addresses of each airport, plus the addresses of each range. The ATT that I was issued listed every address, and was valid for the duration of the trip, so if my plans changed by a day or two, it didn't matter.

So no, it wasn't really a big deal, but having said that, I always deal with the same person at the CFO, and she seems to be able to work magic.

edit: Just re-read your post. When I was moving out here from Alberta, I had to do the same thing, and just had an address change as well.

As you know, you would require an ATT to authorize such a transport. Unless you are someone special, your CFO will be unlikely to issue a single ATT - meaning one that is all-encompassing - for such a meandering trip.

The easiest solution that will be approved is two separate short-term Authorizations.

You are moving somewhere. This somewhere has a civic address. You are required to notify your CFO of any change in your address. Your CFO will almost certainly require you to specify the civic address of this new location.

ATT #1: Your current CFO will issue you a single short-term ATT to ship or mail your restricted firearm(s) (either to that specified address or to another specified address, be it a firearms business, or the address of another licensed person). Once issued you can ship or mail the firearm(s) and your firearm(s) will be waiting for you upon your arrival.

ATT #2: If you have shipped them to somewhere other than your new home, your new CFO will issue you a short-term authorization to transport your firearms (from where they are) to your new home.

Mine was similar in that I moved from Nova Scotia to Alberta. The NS CFO issued the trip ATT.
I gave likewise information, and had no problems.

I think I'll go the mail to myself route if I do get them.

The wife and are looking rural and I'm a little concerned about my ability to locate a range. The last place I lived had one two hours away. I was just trying to get an idea of the hoops needed. To go through to get a Restricted from my old house to the new one and the Ontario CFO is ummm well anti-gun to say the least. I had my last non-restricted while in the store but the clerk warned me it might be a couple days can't even imagine how long it would be for a pistol. So if I read this right in the mailing idea would I apply for the TATT in the province I was moving to would that create a problem. In regards to actually getting it issued since they'd need to open a file take DNA fingerprints ... oh wait sorry that's what they do to people who commit crimes not own guns. I always get those two confused.

Unless you're planning on shooting at some ranges along the way I think I'd talk to a local shop about holding them for you all nicely packed in a shipping box until you get to your final stop and then call them to tell them to ship to you. I would think that if you do all the pre-prep work and call the CFO that this should be pretty cheap to arrange.

And it'll free up a lot of room in the car/truck/SUV for other stuff and free your mind from any issues about theft along the way.

And if they want to charge more than $40 to $50 for this service then go to another shop. The other option would be to "lend" the entire box o' guns to a friend with the proper RPAL that you can trust to actually send them to you rather than delay while he "Quality Controls" them for 3 months of his own time.... :D

well, where in AB are you moving there's quite a few ranges around... and i would rather take em with me than mail em for a couple different reasons, but that's just me.

Still in the narrowing it down phase. We were more thinking BC. My wifes left of Stalin. and I like guns so we need a place where she can find activist friends and I can go blast the innocent woodland creatures. Oh and I need to get away from Miller and his clones on the council. The GTA is just going to get worse and worse then spread like an illness to the rest of the province. That and the only jobs around here are retail. Nothing wrong with that but I can safely say I'm not suited for it.

You might be able to get an ATT for transport, but I think logistically it would be easier to ship your pistol and apply for ATT's where you think you will be using it.

Be aware, I am still waiting for my ATT in Ontario. Little past nine weeks now. Ontario is not like the rest of free Canada (the west).

That could be a club issue BTW I just sent in my renewal notice to my club and needed to remind them about processing it. Might want to check in with the person who runs the ATT's in your club. Not that I'm saying anything but I'd just check in to be sure.
