MP 40 restoration

Hi I have to work on an MP40 and try to give him a new beaty because it have been rusting in a crappy place for a while. I am unfamilar with the Mp40 but I have restored an old P14 a while a go so I know that with a little hand from you guys this will be easy.

I know esq told you to post in the black rifles forum but you are honestly better off in milsurps...just have a mod move the thread

By MP40, do you mean a stamped metal ww2 era German sub machinegun? How bad is the rusting? Do you have any photos of the damaged areas?

Also, is it an MP38, MP38/40, MP40, MP41, MP40/I or MP40/II. All are similar but lsightly different. Some are made of different types of metal and must be worked on differently (ie some are made of milled steel, others are stamped and welded)

I'd be happy to help with good advice, but much of the value of these guns is in their originality and I think I'll need photos to recommend the least intrusive way to restore it to presentable condition.
