what does this marking mean?. I know to look out for anything marked DP but I have no clue about an MP mark.

Military Police?

Also what is this tab for on the back of the magazine?

RCMP, usually on left side of receiver not the wrist, there are some fakes out there, so maybe someone else will chime in

the MP marked ones I have owned ,verified, and seen have all had the MP stamped up on the left side underneath the front of the rear sit on the charger guide

My experience as well. And the MP is nicely and clearly stamped. MP on your example looks like the M and P run into each other. I guess there can be exceptions but just looks funny.

Here is one page!

WOW. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. A No.4 Mk1 Longbranch recently walked into my favorite toy store. I know next to nothing about Lee Enfeilds but I looked it over a few days ago and put it back in the rack. Then this thread came up. A light bulb went off and I remembered it was similarly marked. I went back to the store this afternoon and took this list with me and sure enough - the numbers matched one on the list. I didn't wake up this morning expecting to buy a rifle....but thanks to you, I'm now the proud owner of an authentic RCMP No.4 Mk1 Longbranch.
