While it is still a long while off my wife and I are "debating" on the next rifle purchase.

She is dead set on the BD44 and I support that idea other than the difficulty to source ammunition. I don't want this thread to turn into what rifle I "should get" but simply the experience others have had with the StG44 platform.

Those of you that have actually used the MP/StG/BD44 I have some questions.

Do you use commercial ammunition or do you reload?

Is the brass reusable after going through the StG? If so, how many cycles do you get out of the brass? Does the StG have issues with brass over steel cased ammunition(I can imagine next to impossible to find now).

Do you use resized brass from different calibres? ie .308 into 7.92x33. If you have sized other calibres to 8mm kurz, do you have any issues with it? How does the final quality and appearence rate?

How is the accuracy of the StG platform? How would you rate the erconomics and handling of the StG?

How many rounds have you put through it? Any issues?

I can imagine magazines are difficult to come by.

Of course, post your pictures!

FWIW, there are form die sets for making 7.92x33 cases. I suspect any cases with the appropriate head diameter would work. No doubt some would be better choices than others. Some might require neck reaming.

When you buy it, you will be all the rage here in langley

Too bad langley doesn't actually have a rifle range, so I drive out to agassiz for my stress relieving sessions.

Landlord won't even let me pop off a few shot gun shells, even though the neighbors bird cannons are going off all day and shot guns are legal to discharge in this area!

true... you should make up a .22 conversion, then you would be all the rage at the gun range in brookswood ;).

Are you gonna use it a lot or just a piece of collection? There's a guy at the range where I go that just got 1, he claims it's impossible to disassembly! Can't remember what exactly was the problem but it was about removing the stock I think. Maybe Liebermuster knows about this?

sorry for the english...

I'm going to shoot the s&^t out of it, if I can. Firearms, like cars, were designed to be used. If I buy the BD44, I will be getting a few thousand cases so that I can have proper range visits.

I've watched a few youtube videos of MP44 tear down, and it is pretty straight forward if you ask me. I can see some issues on assembly, but considering the amount of practice I will have before I even take it to the range I'll be able to strip it down and assemble it in my sleep.

Before I took my P226 out to the range, I probably cycled the action with snap-caps for a good "1500" rounds. I knew everything that pistol was going to do other than what the discharge would feel like.

From the posts so far, it does not seem that it is getting the "abuse" I was hoping to hear about :D

I'm not really into .22 conversions... the "orginal" firearm seems to loose its "authority" in .22LR.

For $200+ a pop? I used the range once while I was a member, as the appearance of my pistol grip telescopic stock Mossberg 500 was not welcome. Apparently only for killing people, I pleaded to get to put some ammo through it as it was going out into the bush with me and I wanted to know what it felt like. Put 25 rounds of AA Handicapped target load through and never went back.

Abbotsford seems like a nice range, but was a total run around to find someone to talk to about membership then have time to actually see me. Screw that, someone else can get my money if I'm willing to spend that day and no one can see me. The Santa Shoot was wicked fun though and I'll be back again this year!

The STG is a rifle, not a platform. 8mm kurz is not impossible to find, but is expensive.

I would consider labling it a platform considering I'm talking about one basic rifle design but there are a number of different variants of the rifle. Considering that I am looking for the perspectives of users of all of the available variants it would be fair to consider the StG as a platform.

Besides the term assault rifle came from Sturmgewehr, again another oppertunity to label a platform.

So basically... next time please add something more constructive to this thread.

The BD/STG44 practically falls apart.....uber Jerman simple to strip...

the ammo is uber simple to reload....being a small fairly low powered round I would expect several reloadings out of new brass

dont even expect to find original steel cased stuff....besides....it will be corrosive

Owning one of these guns got me into reloading....and i aint looked back

I 'think' I bought 500 cases (new) and 1000 boolets for around $350......the Lee reloading kit was $100....dies and powder another $100....just for 7.92 short

I now load almost all the common military calibres for sihts and giggles

contact Bruno at BullsEye reloading in sunny Alberta...hes the dude who sorted me out on the brand new brass

the rifle of which I speak=

What a shame it is you can't take such a fine piece of hardware to the range.

So what we need to do is get a Canadian manufacture to build us a 8mm Kurz bolt action rifle with a 30 magzine that happens to accidentally fit the StG.

Buy one!!!

I have the new production StG44 (BD-44). It is a very fun gun to shoot, although ammunition, mags and other accessories can be hard to come by.

It has taken me a while to acquire 3 spare magazines, and 700 rounds of brass. Don't plan on either being cheap or easy to find. Make sure you like reloading and always special ordering in components too!

Mine shoots reasonably well, is as accurate as one could expect for a rifle utilizing a long-stroke piston gas system with a tilting bolt. It is a service rifle, not a sniper rifle. I used mine at a recent Service Rifle match with relatively good results, hits at 100, 200, and 300 yards, and I am not by any means a crack shot.

It is easy to disassemble, not too much unlike an AR-15.

It is heavy compared to an AK or an AR platform, but it also has very little recoil and has a very unique feel to it when shot due to the long recoil spring that extends into the buttstock.

If you are going to reload, source up large quantities of 125grain .323dia bullets as you are going to be shooting this beauty lots!

Happy hunting! :)

mp44

I sold Klunk his MP44 and still kick myself. When we used to be able to take them to the range that rifle would hit the 500 yd ( 450M ) gong 10 out of 10 with open sights. Absolutely lovely to shoot. They are really simple to strip. Hornady now makes new ammo and there is also someone else down there as well. rigrat

I don't know why you are asking me in particular but sense i do own it, this rifle is simple to strip down, that even a child can do it. I really cannot see the problem anyone would have taking it apart.

All in all it is a great piece of history to own!

Better read up some more sunshine

Those are not safe queens!!
