Seem to have a lot of time on my hands these days so I took on a project.

First off, for all the critics, I know this is not a duplicate MP5. I have always liked the MP5 navy and thought I would like to have a similar looking gun. The 10/22's dimensions don't allow for an exact replica without some fancy parts and linkages. What I tried to do was have something that looks similar based on the 10/22 chassis. The ultimate goal is to keep busy while dealing with an illness that has taken me out of the game as far as work is concerned. This project has done that and then some.

I am in no way a manachinest. In fact, I bought my mill a month ago and am using this as a project to teach myself how to use it. It is a busy bee mill with no DRO so everything is measure, mark and cut, measure, mark and cut and on it goes. I can say that the amount of work to get where I am now has been unreal. Without a DRO, the workload is huge. I don't own a lathe and used an spin indexer and rotary table to cut the top tube.

Anyhow, what I have is a picture of the orginal concept drawing from my computer, a where I am today photo and from that photo an end result. To get the end result (final forcast), I simply darkened the current silver colour and added some of the parts that are yet to come with a paint program.

Just thought I would share the progress with CGNs. If you have any advice to offer, feel free to do so. If you are just looking to flame, don't bother. I know that it is not to scale and is not an exact MP5 navy replica.

Anyone with info on a good/fair priced anodizer in southern ON, let me know.

I can explain the socks. Took the picture just after a round of golf. My "Hello Kitty" ones were in the wash;0

If you get the stock just right you should consider making a mold of the parts and seeing if you can do a plastic injection mold of it (like the marauder). Would be easy to mass produce if you have a working mold. Looks interesting, probably people out there that would want it (just dont let the RCMP see it... they might try and call it a prohib because it looks too cool ;) ) Very nice project, I would love to see the end result!

I talked to the rcmp before i started. The fellow I spoke with said it was ok for several reasons. The main one being it is no different than an sr-22, g-36 etc...in that it is still a legal 10-22 with a fancy dress. The other reason is that it is not an exact replica and although it shares some common traits with an mp5, it is obviously not one.

As for the injection moulding, maybe down the road but right now the brain is full of information regarding mapping out my next part. Front sight is next on the list.

Your life would be so much easier with a DRO.
There are inexpensive units on the market that would match nicely with your inexpensive mill. Quint iGaging DigiMAG Magnetic Remote Digital Readout would probably work well for you.

Nice work ... what's the weight going to be like (forecasted) in the end?

IF I didn't know that they sell those socks in the mens section at wally world, I'd think you robbed your daughters or wifes :D ;)

No weight guess right now but in it's current state, it is quite heavy. There are some areas where i will remove some aluminum to lighten it up. Guessing it will be close to my sr-22 frame when completed.

Been known to steal the wifes socks and stretch em every now and then:)

Where would the fun be in that?

Only two problems with it that I can see.

1. Don't think it would fit.

2. Doing this to keep busy and teach myself how to use a mill. Inserting a 10/22 into an airsoft would defeat the purpose.

Nice Job DsrtRat!
Coming along beautifully!!

*Note - I've seen DsrtRats set-up in his garage. He truly is making chicken soup from chicken s**t. (and learning how to do it on the go!!)

Amazing work. There is NO substitute for something you built yourself. Theres no price tag on the pride you feel when its all done.

Great looking setup. The rear stock section will really give it the look its waiting for.

Awesome job. I love it when someone builds does his own work regardless if it could be purchased elsewhere. There is a great satisfaction in a job well done.

Do you have any pictures while the milling was being performed? I would love to see some.

I keep forgetting to take pics. I am working in the front sight right now. Maybe i will snap some shots working with the rotary table.

Undecided on the stock still. The fixed stock would be easiest but the adjustable is classic navy.

Holy Smokes Man! you did that on your own mill in aluminum?!?!? that is wayyyy cool IMO! And to the guy who said, buy airsoft mp5, and insert 10/22, Pls go Away! ;-)

your doing a fine job so far. awesome stuff. i can barely wait to see the progress as it comes along!

ginnz!
