MP5 Navy (like) 10/22

sorry I am just jumping in based on the DRO comment.
if you want a less expensive option iGaging sells some, I think they have a stainless steel version that is apparently better then there cheaper more plastic lineup.

I have a seig x2 that will be getting the dro outfit soon enough.

yes all the Seig machines are a popular platform to convert to CNC, allot of companies make the retro fit kits.

I also have a sherline 5400 mill, I am probably going to cnc that one.
and a taig lathe.

what are you running?
your work is great

Schnitzil, i am running a 2hp grizzly mill/drill with a 2 foot bed and x power feed. I have a spin indexer and rotary table with 4 jaw chuck for round parts.

Want a dro and lathe next.

Nice build.....

I've always had the "if I cant get one, build one" attitude. I dont have the machinery or know how to machine something, but I will someday.

As for this project, good on you man.... show all the pics and progress so that those of us who dream of a milling machine etc, etc, in the garage can enjoy your efforts and continue to dream.

All those with the negative feedback.... I dare you to do better.

Have a good day.

Gord.

Current state of the build (without the 10/22 inside).

Just a few small parts to go and then it will be time to hollow out the heavier parts to decrease weight, smooth all edges/faces then off for anodizing and paint. the wood parts will be primed and sealed then sprayed with a textured paint to mimic the navy textured plastic.

Looks great so far. A pic of the original gun fitting in would be a bonus, maybe classified info? I can certainly relate to the amount of work involved. Fred

Hehe not classified. I would gladly share it. My plan is to do a "finished" post and include some assembly shots.

I am at the stage now that I can see the final shape and want to get it finished so I can try it out. Got some fishing to do the next 2 weeks but then will be givin er to get it done.

Metalbender, you are correct about the work. I think my next purchase will be a DRO for my mill. HUGE time saver!

Been tied up with other stuff lately but here is an update onthe MP5 like Ruger. Fabrication is 99% complete. I just have to mount the rail on the top and hollow out some of the heavier parts to reduce weight. After that, all aluminum pieces will be sanded and buffed before being anodized. The wooden parts will be prayed black then coated with a krinkle type paint to give it that Textered plastic feel. The adjustable stock is currently in a semi adjustable state. It can be moved by turning two allen keyed screws. I will revisit a cammed mechanism down the road but at this point just wanted to get the gun finished and able to shoot it. (it has been test fired and cycles great).
