Mr Ethical, Have or would you?

Why? What makes a bear in a tree different form a bear standing at the bottom of the tree?

#1 it's what the outfitter asks. so no bears in trees.
#2 it's pinned, has no place to go, not fair chase to me. legal - yes ethical - yes for me - nope.

#3 ever looked up at a cat/bear in a tree, cowering, scared. no way for an animal to die. would much rather them take a bullet while relaxing in the sun or feeding. why i'll never hunt with dogs. legal & ethical - just not my way.

Outfitter probably knows that a bear cowering in a tree is a little dink, and the client will have a major case of shooters remorse when he walks up to the little thing.:p

If a bear is up a tree cowering from you, it's not a shooter.

so if a bear up a tree is not a shooter, yet you would shoot a bear in a tree....

the logic makes my brain hurt ;)

I wouldn't shoot any bear up a tree and I wouldn't bait an animal either. Those are my ethics on the matter whether they are legal or not. If they are up a tree they have nowhere to go... sitting ducks.

And yet again with the Ethics Question.........if it is legal, it's all good.

There is no possible way to get a consensus on CGN of various peoples ethics or morals. Like any human being, ethics and morals are a daily/hourly/yearly changing thing. The only 2 things that really matters, is if the hunt is legal, and if the person can live with themselves afterward.

Judging someone badly, based on your own ethics and morals, for their legal hunt, is more amoral and unethical, than shooting a legal game animal out of a tree, IMHO!

Maybe try reading what I said again and your brain won't hurt: ;)

Bears that get scared and climb trees from a human approaching are most likely younger, smaller bears. I have never had a giant boar run up a tree to escape me. So I could see not wanting to shoot a frightened young bear, but if I was out hunting and saw a giant boar that just happened to be up in a tree having a nice time, I don't see the difference between that and finding him on the ground.

If you have put a bear up a tree and it is cowering from you, then it is not going to be a big bear, and it's not a shooter, because of it's young age and small size.

If a big bear decides to climb a tree and I saw him up there "relaxing in the sun," then I don't make any distinction between shooting him and shooting a bear "relaxing in the sun" on the ground.

It would be a very, very rare event that a person will be walking through the forest, spook a giant boar and have him climb a tree and start bawling. ;)

Its unethical to pass up a good shot in favour of taking a less reliable shot just because the bear is in a tree. This reminds me of when people say its unethical to shoot ducks on the water, they should be flying. What bollocks.

If anyone is ever lucky enough to encounter a wolverine up a tree, I doubt you will be concerned about it being in a state of terror. It will be hissing, spitting mad, and make it very clear that if you were to approach it, you are going to get your face removed.:p

this is why as part of my personal ethics i always wait 'til the buck or bull i am stalking finishes servicing the doe or cow that it is covering. then BANG. i figure it doesn't get any better than that.

Yeah that is true, get close enough he'll jump down your shirt collar!

Supposedly there was a guy in Williams Lake who was hunting a cougar with dogs. Instead the cougar doubled back and ambushed the guy by jumping down on top of him from the top of a small rock "cliff" next to the trail. He had to kill the cougar with a knife. The hunted becomes the hunter once again.
