Mr. Jack

No argument, all these gents had much to add to the industry and their body of work is very worthwhile... just saying many had their own agendas and preferences. Warren & Jim were just as rabid with some of their prefernces and foibils as Jack & Elmer were with theirs. Francis went on ad-nauseum about the 3" - 20 gauge handloads he developed and how well his AyA's would pattern. All's good ... just whatever you enjoy reading and what you're entertained by. THere are those who dismiss Chuck Hawks at the drop of the hat, just as those that pan Craig Boddington - but both have a ton of practical experiance ... whether you "buy" what they're "selling" is another issue altogether !
The problem with that hawks character, is that a lot of the stuff he states, he didn't do , he's just reguretating it!
I wass told you have to pay to access the best part of his stuff, and I have better things to do!
As far as page and Sell go, yup, they had their own thinbgs goin' on!
Mr.Page was no fan of several of the writeres of the past, and one very well reputed editor by the name of Dr. ken Howell!
There was no love lost between the OKH crown and warren page either, according to Dr. Howell.

Boddington? I dunno, he's kinda a "johnny come lately" as far as I am concerned, but I don't mind reading some of his stuff.

I've always liked Carmichael, he was a classy guy. O'Connor was a fun read too. He could really pen a story. I have one of his books (I think "The art of the rifle" maybe?), and it was full of all sorts of little bits of advice. Regarding what other rifles Jack liked, he had really high praise for the 375 H&H.

Boddington I quite dislike. Yes he does hunt a lot, but he whores EVERY product that is put in front of him. Basically, if you read any of his stuff, it goes something like:
-Oct. article "Oh, this 270wsm is my favourite cartridge ever."
-Nov article: "Oh, the 30-06 is my favourite cartridge ever".
-Dec article: "Oh, the 375 Ruger is my favourite cartridge ever".

Get stuffed...

Two of the old time writers and shooters I did not like, were Charles Askins Jr. and Bob Hutton.
Askins was an absolute pompus ass and Hutton was another know it all.

Have any of you read anything by Kai-Uwe Denker? Here is a link to a book review:

...and a good quote (courtesy of Sssster on HBC):
It seems to me like the most bitter irony, that people who no longer know anything about correlations in nature, people who live in big cities in between skyscraper abysses, tar and cement, surrounded by the uproar of planes and engines and shrouded in industrial smog, people who only now and then look out into nature like through a show case, that such people feel entitled to condemn something, which dates back to a time, when the balance in nature was yet undisturbed.
