mr1 feeding issue

Hello all,
I recently traded my Benelli MR1 with the adjustable stock for one with the fixed stock. The first rifle had no issues with a variety of ammo and magazines and the second rifle didn't either the first time I had it out. On this last trip to the range almost every second round would not load, really more like every round actually. When the bolt would cycle either it would slide a round forward until the nose of the bullet contacted the loading ramp and then just stop or the shell would end up with the nose jammed into the top of the receiver and the bolt resting on top of it.

I thought maybe it was the rifle but after playing with it for most of the afternoon I think I've discovered that the magazines don't seat firmly in the mag well. the front end (closest to chamber) can wiggle just a few mm up and down when inserted in the gun. Just enough to cause my feeding problem. Tried loading the mag and giving it a good smack, but that didn't help. If I give it the smack and then fire the gun while holding up on the mag it functions flawlessly.

Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? Happens with the factory mag and my LAR mags. Is there an adjustment on the mag release?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had feeding issues with lar mags, but never with anything else. It might be the ammo? Probably not though, mine cycles anything. I doubt tension in the magazine catch would help.

Anyways, mine doesn't like LAR's but works well with pmags and beowulf, and I've heard GI mags too.

Are you shooting the same ammo that you shot with your old rifle?

My adjustable stock MR1 FTF on HP with the OEM and LAR mags as you describe. With ball it runs like a sewing machine.

I was thinking that it might be the ammo too. I've been using soft point Winchester or Hornaday. I'm not using the exact same Hornaday ammo, but is it still soft point 55 gr ammo. Tried cycling a few different brands/weights, no luck. I was just thinking that if there was a way to get that catch to hold the front of the mag up more it would solve my problem, from looking at it though it doesn't seem like that will work.
tried a Pmag and it had the same issue. Something is allowing the "front" of the mag to dip just enough down to make a difference....

Same type of ammo. What ever the difference is between Hornaday soft point match ammo and the Hornaday 40 rounds per box stuff that I bought last time I was there. Same soft point same grain same look to the bullet. I haven't tried FMJ yet.

Its not that you can't shoot the rifle with your hand under the mag, its just that if you ever forget it makes a hell of a mess. This was supposed to be my coyote gun and its turning into a range gun....

Hey just had a thought...the mag catch is sort of towards the "back" of the mag and the issue seems to be the "front" of the mag dropping a little bit. Do you suppose there would be any way to put in a little shim on the inside of the "back" side of the mag well?
Because the well is rather deep, that would essentially "pry" the mag forward move the front up? Only issue is there isn't a lot of room and it might hinder putting the mag in and out.
I might be over complicating this..I have a tendency to do that...
