MR223A1 questions

It is a 10.5 with a lothar Walter barrel has a xb1 on it, this is one of the rifles dlask did up.

Never had any issues, runs flawlessly , great little CQB rifle

First of... where to get one (and off course pricing so I can shop cheapest)

Second, do we only see the 16" version?

I've seen pics of the MR556/HK416/7 with the shorter barrel (maybe an inch past handguard)

I'd like to get something shorter then then 16. IF barrels are available seperate than that may be the route I'll go down.

Just trying to get as much info as I can before selling my AR and venturing the H&K Route.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Having said that, any non related/smart ass comments will be ignored.

Thanks

If there was enough interest we could run another sale on MR223/MR308

Custom short barrels can be produced.

The problem with losing the barrel on the MR223 is that when you do that you have greatly depreciated the value of the gun, the barrel is what you are really paying for in a HK gun. I think it comes down to what kind of AR you want and for what purpose.

Here is how My HK416 is set up and here is an awesome configuration also to consider for your MR556(Gieselle rail) a guy posted on HKpro.com. The MR223 is set up more for DMR/recce role in my opinion, the barrel it comes in is basically heavier than that of the HKM27IAR and really would be great to run full auto in if that was available.

If it's you're first AR and you want it to do many things and weight was an issue I would look more to an SR15 in 16.5 preferably or 14.5 might be the better option for that matter

If you are bent on an HK well then there is less options available. One thing I might consider doing if possible is having my barrel dimpled on my MR223(first version) to knock of some weight. Really I would not rush to buy the MR223A1 version because as Blaxsun mentioned the ability to swap lowers for the added cost could be spent else where on optics/light accessories or a KAC lower for example.

From rumors I have herd some people have cut the barrel down in various MR versions and some have had zero issues well others have had serious problems. Go to HKpro for the best shops that can do this for work, I can't remember all there company names but they seem to have the best success.

That's pretty much what IM going for.

I already got a LMT 16" and it's really not what I "need", in that I dont shoot past 200 yards.

I dont mind paying the cash for the MR223 and then getting a shorter barrel and just doing a swap (if possible to do on my own).

I just dont want another one of what I already have, just to say I own a H&K. (Having said that if anybody is selling the HK45 for a reasonable price ;) )

I've been over at HKPro for a while (just lurking and reading), but a lot of it is "available in the US" "not for Export" blah blah blah. I want to know what is available for us Canadians and wont cost me 10K at the end of the project.

I dont mind getting either the 223 or the A1 model, as I dont plan to ever be swapping uppers on it, but I do want the shorter barrel for weight (My sl8-36 clone is pretty heavy on the run and gun)

I considered just getting a piston driven upper with a short barrel to swap out on my LMT, but I'd rather spend a bit more and go H&K (yes Im a fanboy what can I say) and I need to finish off the family (USP.45, SL8-36, and now the MR223, with the HK45 down the road)

As Leiber pointed out, the real value in the HK416/MR223 is the barrel. But HK416's are unobtanium, and if the shorter barrel is the look you're after - it sounds like Tactical Imports has the most cost-effective setup ($3,699 for a new MR223A1 is a good price).

No doubt about it, KAC makes a nice DI AR. But no, the barrel and the rifle don't compare to an HK416. I'm more of a "if it's going to be restricted might as well get the shortest barrel I can" kind of AR person. ;)
Ya but you know what type of loops I have to jump threw to bring anything less than a 16 inch barrel bellow the 49th???
