MR556 vs MR556A1

I do not get it how FA compatibility and PMag are overridingly important.
Neither do I. The only thing I can think of is in the case of where people are waiting [hoping] for a freaky, far-fetched SHTF scenario, and ready to drill out that pin in their PMAGs...

Do EMAGs work with the MR223?

Howevever, this logic does not seem to extend to Swiss arms or TAVOR.
Might be because they're unrestricted, and if C-391 goes through... won't be registered...

Leibermuster and GT,

You guys can have your views on things and I'll have mine. We don't have to agree and I can certainly see how futile it is try and convince either of you. Personally, after owning the HK system I opted to go back to DI anyway. I'm just glad others who share my views have an option with this new A1 version.

You have a right to your opinion and that is fine, all stick to my piston system well my other DI guns is used for a comparison of why i moved on:D

It would be nice though if the MR556 A1 came out up here two so you can sport a nice HK rifle and be a very happy camper.

I honestly don't know if I'd go back to the HK. Here are the things I didn't like:

- Heavy. I thought the 10" gun was hefty so I can't imagine the 16". I guess that's just the price of the piston.

- Proprietary rail system and it was too short for my liking. I like to get my light out a little further and don't like exposed gas blocks. Although now I see they have long rails.

- Non standard height upper rail. Requires lower sights and optic mounts. Kind of a pain in the ass. I like to have all my firearms with as many interchangeable parts as possible.

- In order to clean the piston you have to remove the rails. It would have been better to have a front loading piston (FN FAL style). I know HK says that any lasers or sights mounted to the rail will stay zeroed but some people I know have said that they have had issues with rails retaining zero, particularly with regards to IR LADs on well used rifles.

So I think unless I were going to get one for a sweet deal I will stick to the regular old DI guns.

Look to be straight with you, it really doesn't matter for me if i have Stag rifle or an HK because as of this moment I'm not shooting high volume anyway. Lets just be thankful we have lots of options compared to the days when the light was about to go out!

The only draw back on this rifle is the pins, and that's it, but there are Emags, HK mags and steel Gi mags fit in her fine and work above the old standards anyways.

To me its really not a major issue, sure its a PITA yes, but not a deal breaker.

Rail height - optic wise it never bothered me, I ran standard height mounts and never looked back.
Lancer and TD mags -- why?
Given the EMAG is available - thats the ticket

Hk416's uppers down here are Grey/Black Market down here.
ATF will not allow them in due to barrel rulings.
So any 'legally' acquired ones for civilians would either have to have been LE guns that where parted out, or uppers imported before ATF made their ruling.

LE upper pricing is aprox $1,300 these days from the last numbers I've seen, with the whole gun under $2000.
Some enterprising departments buy complete guns, and sell off the uppers for around $2500 to dealers, which then allow them to take a quality upper in trade with an optic - effectively a win win.

I'm over the piston love affair I had, but I don't begrudge others who are interested.

Yeah it does have a little extra weight but that doesn't bother me. I could see for some that may be an issue. A Daniel defense rail may be a good way to cut down on that and an extension or extended length would be good for more balance it out. But the rifle is really rock solid and great combat rifle in my book.

Wouldn't mind picking up the MR308 at some point, probably sooner then latter!
