A little background on this rifle:

Years back before I got married, my wife-to-be noted that in the engagement, the man doesn't get a keepsake like the woman does, and encouraged me to buy a rifle on my wishlist. So I bought a stag-10 and gradually modified it to make it suitable for a league we were trying to grow locally. Unfortunately, the Canadian urge to define itself as not-American manifested itself once more in a round of gun bans, and my engagement gift was incarcerated in 2020. The MRA maverick receiver set allowed the gun to transform and see the light of day once more.

The original 308 barrel was sold off in favour of a Faxxon gunner barrel, which suited my needs well enough for the now-defunct shooting league, and it remained in the original 308 so I could dump inexpensive campro 147s at the ipsc targets. Post-ban however, I decided to build this thing into something that could really perform, and in my favourite chambering: 243 winchester.

It has since evolved into an absolute dream rifle of mine with a stainless IBI barrel in 243 with a 1:8 twist. It wears a viper gen II 2.5-10x32 scope in an American Defense QD mount because sometimes I just love shooting with irons or the Eotech. I carved up a standard end plate and welded it to the MRA plate to take up that horrific gap between the receiver and the butt stock. I also drilled a few holes in the PRS lite stock and installed an older magpul rail in order to use a monopod at the bench. The rear buis is a takeoff from a colt sa20, so it is Canadian marked but I believe troy actually manufactures them. The cadex falcon lite bipod is however home-grown.

I have 3 young kids and my range is an hour away...so range time for load development is a scarce commodity, but I'm working on it and have several loads that show great promise.

Never owned one, so bear with me. Do you have to remove the stock first to get the bolt out every time you want to clean it?

Because it is not gas operated the chamber and bolt face remain relatively clean after firing and can be cleaned relatively easily without stripping. It does mean that the barrel has to be cleaned from the muzzle end without removing the stock and this is less desirable but OK if you are careful or use a bore guide.

I have a Maverick and an SBI LPC straight pull and apart from the above like them a lot. Both are accurate well built rifles.

You can also use a pull through cable system. Handy for lever guns too!
