Yes, you do, but since the gun isn't gas operated it would be thousands of rounds before that would be truly necessary.Never owned one, so bear with me. Do you have to remove the stock first to get the bolt out every time you want to clean it?
You can also use a pull through cable system. Handy for lever guns too!Because it is not gas operated the chamber and bolt face remain relatively clean after firing and can be cleaned relatively easily without stripping. It does mean that the barrel has to be cleaned from the muzzle end without removing the stock and this is less desirable but OK if you are careful or use a bore guide.
I have a Maverick and an SBI LPC straight pull and apart from the above like them a lot. Both are accurate well built rifles.
