MRA Renegade, 6.5 Grendel, and hard extractions

Bump. Anybody found a solution for this yet? Or, conversely does anyone have a MRA renegade in Grendel that is running well without hard extraction?

On the MRA Facebook group, there was at least one fellow who said he had 6.5 Grendel running just fine.

Myself, I gave up. Lighter bullets and polishing the chamber didn't make a difference. So, I put a 6x45 barrel on, and things run just fine.

I’m running factory ammo, haven’t polished the chamber yet but sounds like that’s the last step. 60 or 80 rounds in, no improvement yet. Very disappointing if I can’t get this to work. A 12.5 inch hunting rifle sounds awesome - my 556 upper sounds great, hope something works out.

Resurrecting this thread given the current state of firearms bans in Canada. Want to confirm that the Renegade still is not suitable for 6.5 Grendel/6mm ARC. My Faxon Type II 6.5 Grendel bolt and Faxon 6mm ARC chambered barrel suffer from hard (nearly impossible) extractions. Have sent exactly 100 rounds through the barrel without any improvement. Really disappointing wish I had seen this thread before I decided to repurpose my 6ARC barrel that was intended to go on my LTAC Raven to the Renegade platform.

Hopefully this helps someone out there in the same situation.

I just built a 22ARC Renegade and I'm fighting hard etraxtion issues as well. Running a Faxon match barrel with matched Faxon bolt.

Also having same extraction issue with my brand new 308 Maverick. Seems that MRA builds rifles with tight chambers. When contacted MRA said the problem was shooting 7.62 NATO in a rifle designed for 308 Win and that it should loosen up after 100 rounds or so. I am going to try some different ammo brands and see if that helps.

No finer line of BS has ever been spoken !

7.62 x 51 NATO is a lower pressure cartridge than 308 Winchester.

The pressure is not the issue with the 7.62x51 surplus ammo. We have found that the brass used in some surplus ammo sticks whereas the vast majority of commercial manufactured ammo brass does not. This is our experience, not BS. Furthermore, a customer recently infomred us that 7.62x51 IVI ammo worked great yet some other surplus they tried did not.

Further to the OP isssue. We have had mixed reports of 6.5 Grendel in the Renegade. Some cusotmers have had success however many more have not. We regret that we cannot be of more assitance beyond recommending some of the ideas shared in this thread. I think the assesment that the straight walled case does create a greater bearing surface that cannot be suffciently broken with the primary extraction system that we have on the Renegade is sound.

An alternative we can offer for those seeking a deer huniting caliber, the Renegade is now available in 300BLk with a 1:10 twist which is optimal for 125gr to 150gr ammo. A 16" 300BLK Renegade is very accurate and will deliver sufficient energy out to ranges of 300m. We have 16" 300BLK rifles, barrels, and complete upper receivers available right now for anyone interested in this caliber. If you are looking for something to harvest larger game like Bear, Elk, or Moose, we offer the Maverick in 308 Win and soon 6.5 Creedmoor.

I'm interested in the 12.5" 300 blackout barrel, site shows backorder - how long is lead time?

As the OP, I did give up on 6.5 Grendel. I was hoping to use my Renegade for hunting, so I went to a 6x45 chambering instead. According to the math, the 6x45 should be sufficient out to about 150m or so (for deer anyway). It functions great, and it doesn't require anything other than a barrel. I can still plink/target shoot out to 300m (the furthest distance my range has). I had the best performance with projecticles in the 75-90gr range. You really have to experiment. Alberta just recently permitted .22 centerfire for hunting but I don't know if I'd rebarrel at this point.

I also have an MRA Maverick in .308 with an IBI barrel which runs flawlessly with any ammo I feed it (even the Norinco stuff). My experience with the IBI barrel and .308, and hearing that there are some who have had success with 6.5 Grendel, does have me wondering if perhaps a different 6.5 Grendel barrel would make a difference on my Renegade. If someone wants to donate an IBI 6.5 Grendel barrel I'd be happy to experiment. :)
