MRA renegade and Spectre ballistics builds

MRA Maverick .308 Build...

Just put together my first MRA "Maverick" .308 rifle.

This Saturday will be the day to test fire and zero this build. So far, cycling the action with dummy rounds is flawless, and 'feels good' - no issues with binding, feeding, or ejecting.

How did the test fire go? I'm curious to hear if there were any extraction issues with .308 without any primary extraction or help from a gas system.

Rifle functioned perfect! No issues with any of the 8 stages of the "Cycle of Functioning".

With the Knight's Armament SR-25 factory "Match" trigger, I'm grouping 1" at 100 yards, with factory Federal 168gr BTHP Match ammo.

Very happy with it.

FYI...just built another .308 MRA, based on an ArmaLite AR-10 (20" Barrel) SuperSASS ("Semi-Automatic Sniper System") Barrel Assembly and Forend.

Test fire shows it will shoot 1" - 1-1/4" groups @ 100 yards with Federal 168gr Match ammo.

This AR-10 rifle will be up for sale shortly.

Cheers!

They did test it. To make sure the action cycled. I gather they do that at the factory as part of the QA on all their rifles. However, this didn’t reveal an accuracy issue. I haven’t dug into it yet, but it’s possible they don’t test at a range with much distance. Not sure. In hind sight, it would have been great to ask them to do some accuracy testing but neither of us expected this at the time.

Check your barrel nut torque, muzzle device, clearances, handguard, optics and optics mount. Sounds like something is loose/off. Try a couple different cartridge weights and quality as ammo can make a huge difference.

Very nice to hear. Looking forward to mine in 6mm. Hoping the higher pressure will not induce any issues.

I have both platforms, and both have their strengths.
The MRA Renegade has more elaborate machining, and looks better/fancier. I put them both equal in terms of quality, they're both machined very well.
The Spectre can be built lighter, as it has no buffer. could be important to some.
The bolt throw on the Spectre is smoother and lighter. I prefer the Spectre for 'easy' to chamber/extract cartridges, like the 223 and 224 Valkyrie. fully manual, but effortless and butter smooth like the 6spd in a M3. but I wish the charging handle was longer for the 6.5 Grendel, as the cartridge design makes it stickier to lock into battery and extract. having no spring assist makes the Spectre much easier to prove safe at the range/PRS, as well as single load.
the spring assist and larger bolt handle on the Renegade is very handy for harder to chamber/extract cartridges. just pull and release. but having a buffer spring makes it less smooth and creaky.
the Renegade was designed to use a nylon-tipped bolt to remove play between the upper and lower, which is a nice touch. alot of thinking went into the design. and it's alot easier to clean, as you need to remove the buffer to pull the bolt (allows for a regular cleaning rod). the back of the LPC receiver is solid, so you can't use regular cleaning rods.
to be honest, I have a tough time picking which platform I prefer better. the Renegade is prettier to look at, and more guaranteed to go into battery being spring assisted, but my LPC Valkyrie puts a smile on my face every time I use it. with them being the same price, I'd probably get the Renegade. but the sale price on the LPC makes it hard to pass by.

Here’s an idea ... has anyone tried an PDW stock on their LPC or MRA build? If the lowers are standard size the collapsible stock could fit ....
