Mrad or moa ?

Target to hit is at laser ranged at 538 meters. How many clicks, if you think that you need 17 cm for wind at that range, if 1 click = 1cm? Oh crap, coyote has started to move - now what?

Why are you measuring wind drift in centimeters?

Target to hit is at laser ranged at 538 yards. How many clicks, if you think that you need 3" for wind at that range, if 1 click = 1/4"? Oh crap, coyote has started to move - now what?

Just go MRAD. You can use either for a rangefinder to be "close" on midrange targets, but quickly gets tough to be accurate. I always thought in 1/4" clicks, got my first MIL scope last year and love it. With either MILS or MOA, a proper reticle will let you measure and either hold or click the turret.
If I had spare cash, I would replace every hunting scope I have with MRAD as well. Not dots, but .2 hash.

I agree 100%. Once you use MRAD, you don't want to go back to MOA. I just wish there were more lightweight hunting scopes in MRAD.

Agreed. I've got a 13 oz MOA Leaupold on my hunting rifle. The best I can find in MRAD FFP is almost twice the weight and more than twice the price.

If a person was going to use "MOA is finer" as an argument in favour of it you should keep in mind that 1 MOA isn't exactly 1" at 100 yards. It's 1.047".

MOA Inches of Spread at # yards
100 - 1.047
200 - 2.094
300 - 3.141
400 - 4.188
500 - 5.235
600 - 6.282
700 - 7.329
800 - 8.376
900 - 9.423
1,000 - 10.47

many people dont understand what MOA actually is (you can tell when they give a distance and MOA). What many people also dont understand that the finer adjustment comes from 1/4 MOA clicks which is a smaller increment than mrad.

This can be an issue if you have a super accurate gun and want it to adjust 5mm left to be in center.... This is however NOT an issue if you have turrets where you can "declick" them for zeroing.

For what its worth. MOA vs MRAD nearly doesnt matter and is personal choice. The only thing that really matters if having a MRAD reticle and MOA adjustments (and the opposite) THAT IS idiotic.

For people that adjust their scopes a lot for long distance a larger adjustment like MRAD or 1/2 MOA can be an advantage to get the scope dialed up quicker. Some people like the easier math and dial 10 clicks (mrad) to get the POI up 10cm. but this only works at 100m increments so only makes sense at the range and otherwise doesnt matter much.

If you shoot with a range finder and ballistics calculator then it nearly doesnt matter what you have as you are just dialing x clicks.

I always get a kick out of this topic, people get pretty worked up. They both work, both are angles of measurement.

Some people claim you have to be nuts to use MOA.. I mean who thinks in 1/4's?? I do! 1/4, 1/2 tank of gas.. 1/2, 3/4 tank of gas, etc...

Get a scope with the features, glass, reticle that you like.

I'm an MRAD guy but you got me on the tank of gas thing. Good example.
