MRE's

The best IMPs were the mac and cheese (for breakfast?) and the spicy chicken breast. Always got nasty heart burn from the spicy chicken though.

Woe betide anybody who had to be within earshot of me when I got a vegetarian IMP... and the peach drink sucked ass.

But - definitely interested in buying at least 1 case. Was just on the website recently looking to buy a case.

See http://www.mealkitsupply.com, I just ordered 2 cases of MRE + chocolate bars (for testing).

Have been eating them with the heat packs for hunting last 2 years. Actually pretty good! Except for the omelette. Avoid that bad boy.

Also, they still bung you up. Til Tuesday for example, if you start Saturdsy. Then whoa.... I think it's the wheat bread....

IMP's and MRE's are two different products. IMP's (Individual Meal Packages) have been in the CF supply chain for probably 20yrs plus. MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) were introduced about 10yrs ago and are issued to Cadet Corps who are training in the field. In my opinion (and I've ate a lot of both as a CIC Officer since 1998) the IMP is the better field ration. As far as I know MRE's are not provided to Reg Force and PRes units. The last IMP's that were supplied to my Corps was a few years ago and my understanding was that they were nearing their best before date and came out of DART stores in Trenton. We looked forward to the change for a few months.
The American Military also issues MRE's which are packaged in a really tough plastic bag type package. I saw them issued to US Forest Service personel and National Guard Units when Ont MNR staff were working in Montana during a "fire flap" in the 90's.

do you get the full meal ones? or just the ones with and entree and a side?

also..

Have you even seen the other types that have breakfast, lunch and dinner in each pouch?
I got the full meal ones, with heaters. These will be better for the purpose I intend to use them for (hiking backup, and general purpose emergency rations). As for the complete breakfast/lunch/dinner, are you talking about First Strike Ration (FSR) ? I have looked for those, but AFAIK, these are not available to civilian. That said, I'd be greatly interested by them too.

Blah, who pays for that stuff (IMPs)? I just got back from a week long Field-X and I am not kidding, I went Monday to Friday without s****ing ONCE!!! The best is the Ritz crackers that expired back in 2010 that now smell like fermenting feet...yum. And as for the breakfast meals, I'd rather just jam a bunch of Solider Fuel bars or some high carb equivalent in my valise.

From the reviews I have read I wonder why these IMP's don't come with a laxative pill. Maybe it's an advantage to no need to crap for a week when your in the bush. Less chance of wiping with poison oak!
