Hey,

Since a 44 mag as a bush pilot in a 5 inch barrel is my only option that can take down a polar bear and still be compact enough, I was thinking what if I just go 12 ga. Buy a cheapest mossberg 590 ( quality ), replace the barrel with a shortest legal one I can get, make the stock a folding one so I can fit it in my back pack. 870 is out of the question because my gloves get snagged on the feed plate.

Anyone done it? something like a BL 6-1?

I mean our country does not offer many choices for those who actually need a firearm for protecting for our jobs. It sorta bothers me I cant get a Super Redhawk alaskan. 2.25 inch barrel would be awesome for carry.

An 8.5" barrel on any pump gun involves shortening the magazine tube, plus 8.5" barrels are not manufactured for the Mossberg. You'd be better off with the Grizzly 8.5" and if reliability is of utmost concern (though mine's shot everything I've fed it) you can look at replacing the receiver and internals with an 870 Wingmaster.

Not sure when CanAm is supposed to be getting more in though.

I've already suggested to "Charles Martel" that making short barreled kits for the Mossy pumps would be a hot item.

The mag-tubes are threaded, so one with limited skills and tools could do the job as long as the parts were available. I'd be all over this.

Otherwise, no, it'd be a one-off job... it could be done, but expect to pay for it.
