So I know a guy who just purchased one of these, it's a 29.5 inch trap gun with factory choke tubes and looks like brand new even though it must be 1970's vintage. I read they were made by Perazzi for the Montreal Olympics in 1976 and imported by Ithaca. Does anyone here have one and care to share some knowledge about them?

The MT-6 was designed for the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The MX was designed for the Mexico City olympics in '68 ergo MX-8. The inovation on the MT-6 was the first generation of factory choke tubes in a P gun. All MX series barrels can be easily fitted to the MT receiver. The major differences is that butt stocks are not interchangeable with the MX guns and the MT6 doesn't have a drop out trigger assembly.
Perazzi were imported by Pachmayr, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Ithaca starting early '70s, then Winchester in late '78, before Perazzi USA was formed in Rome, New York in '79. I bought an Ithaca import MX-8 last year that was supposedly worn out and so far have put 5000 rounds through it without a hiccup. I'll rebuild it once something finally breaks. Perrazis are almost infitely rebuildable.
As for the age, I direct you to this: http://www.perazzi.com.au/how-to-tell-the-age-of-your-perazzi.html

Wow, I didn't know about the model designation being related to the Olympic city (Mt = Montreal, MX = Mexico) very cool! I must admit that Perazzi has never been my thing, being more of a B gun type, so I know very little about them but it's fascinating to learn these things! I understand that the MT-6 has coil springs instead of leaf so maybe a bit less prone to breakage?
Great info and thanks for the link.

Above info is correct. The MT6 is basically an MX8 without a dropout trigger. They were produced until about the mid 80’s. A buddy of mine has one that has been shot to death and is due for a thorough servicing and new locking block. Once done it would be good for another 100,000 - 150,000 rounds. Perazzi’s are tough and built for the long haul....this is my TMS from the same era, 1977 manufacture. It has coil spring trigger as well and is a drop out as well.

The TM-6 I'm talking about has exactly the same case and letter dated 1976 and the only other obvious difference (other than the barrel length) is that the TM-6 doesn't have an adjustable comb or nearly as nice wood as your TMS. That's purdy Spank!

The stock on mine was an update. It was a brand new Perazzi factory made stock with factory installed adjustable comb given to me with the gun. It was made to fit a TM9 but I had Martini Gunmakers in BC fit it to the gun. And thanks.
There was an absolutely mint MT6 combo for sale on trapshooters.com a few months back. It was hard to pass it by, lol.

Yeah, I've googled up prices and they're all over the place and so is the condition of the respective gun in question, kinda hard to say exactly what a good price really is. I guess it's more about what it's worth to the buyer.

I see MT6’s come up regularily on trapshooters which is of course an american site. In very good condition asking prices seem to hover around the $3000 mark.

We just went out to the pattern board and this baby shoots really high, I'd say 80% or possibly more. Is this typical? I've had some trap guns that shot 70/30 and I shot them fairly well but 80/20 is really getting up there! The patterns look pretty good otherwise and the barrels are well regulated.

That sounds about the same as my MX8 although mine has an adjustable comb. I like them to shoot even higher so I have the comb jacked up. take it out to the trap range and try it. You might be surprised at how well you shoot it. The difference. between 70/30 and 80/20 is 90% in your head.

It still isn't hi enough!

Personal opinion at least have to see what your style of shooting works best.
