I am currently tweeking my XL650 dies. It seems that my bullets are too small for the shells. I haven't even bell'd them out yet, and I could push the bullet deep inside the shell.

Is it that the shell casings are bad, or do I just need to resize them 1st?

You must resize before the brass will hold a bullet. You should have a reloading manual that explains all of this. If you don't, get one before you attempt reloading any ammo.

If you have fired brass then yes you will need to resize first. Also, your question leads me to say you also might want to do some reloading manual readin' before you start rocking that 650.

Any reloading manual will answer your question in good detail, not to be rude but spend a little time reading as much you can on the subject.

Thanks for the info guys. I just got the press and am slowly building it. I haven't got past setting it up yet, and do have a manual. I am just in the stage of doing the initial adjustments for the dies. The recommended OAL is 1.090". I trying to set that, I discovered that my brass was too big.

I will run all of it through my resizing die 1st, and take it from there. Not to worry, I will not blow myself up. I plan on learning everything before adding primers. Then I will bring in someone that knows what they are doing to watch over my shoulder.

Your doing things in the wrong order.

1. Resize/deprime
2.prime
3.flare/charge with powder
4. Seat the bullet and crimp.

What diameter is the projectile your using? As well there is no point in sizing all your brass, run a few cases to get the hang of it.
I'm not trying to be an ass, but if you don't know that you need to resize first, you need to re read your reloading manual/book.

Once you learn what you need you may look back your posts and laugh at yourself. Until then don't blow yourself up. :)

Where are you at. I would sugest a mentor now, not later

Read your manual before you do anything else. There's a how-to video on RCBS' site.
You won't be setting the OAL until you're ready to seat bullets. What press do you have?
