I'm having trouble deciding on a scope for my Savage MKII and as a beginner I have no idea what type of magnification requirements I will be needing to see the tiny holes at 100-150 yards. Is a 8-32 extreme overkill? I'm worried something smaller like a 4-15 etc wont be enough.

Side Focus isn't a must but I would like target turrets and 1/8'' adjustments over 1/4'' as well as the fine cross hair so the Mueller just seems to fit the bill. Or is there something else worth looking at under $300 with more then enough magnification a a fine cross hair?

Well ended up going a total different route I suppose and picked up a Bushnell Trophy 6-18x50mm with AO locally. Decided I'd rather buy something locally since if anything did happen to it I can simply exchange it in town vs having to ship it off. Also has 1/4'' adjustments with the multi-x reticle but I'm sure it will work out just fine.

Scratch the Trophy... Rings/Mounts they sold me wouldn't work and the 50mm bell was just huge and it was going to sit way way to high. So I took everything back into the shop along with my rifle and swapped the Trophy for a slightly used 4200 elite 8-32x40 with AO that they got all mounted and ready to go for me!

Pretty excited now since I never expected to start off with such a nice scope.

I'm sure I will be happy with it. I was assured that even with it being used if I have any problems the store will handle the warranty and deal with bushnell themselves to get it fixed or replaced. Price wise it was just a bit more then the Mueller would have costed which is another bonus since I'm sure most would go for the 4200 over a Mueller.

Quality and Condition wise though it seems to be fantastic. Not a ding or scratch on it, all knobs/adjustments are still fairly firm and goddamn is the thing clear! Its long, but really really clear down low and surprisingly doesn't change that much when you get up to the 32x.
