I killed a mulie buck last Saturday. My rifle is sighted for 200 yards. The deer was about 400 yards away. There was a little left wind adjustment required, and I held about a foot over his antlers. The 150 grain BTSP, Hornady Custom .308 Winchester slug hit him in the middle of the chest. It passed through the left lung, and out the left rib cage. The deer went down and stayed down.
400 yards is maximum for the .308 Winchester in my opinion. The tenderloins tasted great.

You could be right about that. But you do know your rifle, your exterior ballistics and did your homework and no more needs to be said. Great shot, enjoy the venison. :dancingbanana:

Great shot! We had similar shots last week. It sure pays to know what your rifle can do. My buddy shot his with a .308. He said he never would have even attempted that shot had I not worked out the ballistics for him. Mine was with a 7mm RM and I still hit high!

Congrats!
