Headed out this afternoon to see if we could fill an antlerless mule deer tag, I have two and my wife has 2 and we both have antlered tags for another WMZ. Of course within 100 yards of pulling off the road and onto an abandoned lease road leading to where we park to walk into our watch this bruiser is standing in the middle of the lease road grazing on whatever was growing in the middle of the road. Nothing like holding tags for the wrong zone when you encounter the biggest mulie buck you've ever seen! :sok2

I have a couple of experiences like that. Was hunting for Elk in the Kootenay region of BC.
One day after the Mule Deer season closed, I encountered the biggest antlered Buck I have
ever seen. Murphy strikes again. :( Dave.

Is that a shooter?

Naa too big. I would have had an awful time trying to fit that in the bed of my truck since it has a canopy. I'd have had to cut the antlers off and thrown them away!

I want to know how it jumped the fence and escaped the “master”

I think it knows how to open gates and of course it's keen sense of smell allows it to smell b.s at great distances to avoid a master b.s'r!

I can live going my whole life not harvesting a buck like that bad boy but I would sure love to actually see one in real life.

Now that I've seen one I'd like to see another and another etc. ;)

Had same for elk. Had antler less tag for same zone I saw five bulls walk single file 200 yards away. They walked the full quarter field that way

Sounds like you are in a nice area.

No, I was just being sarcastic with regards to the other "pass or shoot" thread.
And I would have shot either of the 2 deer in that pic thread faster thank you can say "rumplestiltskin"

But, I will say that when I went hunting in WY, the guide said a MD ears are 20" wide, so we are only shooting deer that are 25-26 etc
Being from ON, I had never seen deer like this. I would have shot the first one I saw.

But I learned to judge MD from straight on (front or back) and antelope from the side .
Antelope ears are about 6" high so you want an animal that's horns are twice as high as its ears

Anyway, mine is about 27" wide and I am quite happy with it

Hahaha ok. I was thinking holy #### I need to step my game up.

I had a cow elk tag and on opening day encountered a small herd of 27 bulls, one massive 5X5 with tall tines and beams extending beyond his tail when he tipped back to bugle at 80 metres and a slightly smaller 6X7 chirping back at him at 100 metres. Never saw that when I had a bull tag in my pocket.
