Just wondering if anyone is using the Murray's SS SKS firing pin w/spring and if so, how do you like it? Any issues? I'm looking at replacing the firing pin in my SKS-D and happen to come across the Murray's offering in my search.

sks Murray firing pin=waste of money. Sks dont need that to function properly. Russian have dropped the spring loaded pin because was not needed. Keep the free floating pin dry and clean and buy ammo to shoot:D If the free floating pin rattle when you shake the bolt, its perfect. My two cents:)

waste of money sure, but not a big waste of money. go for it.

svt - i often wondered about this; did the soviets drop the spring loaded pin because it was completely useless, or because they could get by without it, and save a crapload of rubles?

My guess is they find that was not needed at all and free floating pin is more simple to make,no spring to break.

IMO if your firing pin is broken, then go for it if you want. But if not, why fix something that is not broken? The spring loaded SKS firing pin is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. With all the SKS in Canada, (probably 1000's only on CGN) How many incidents involving an SKS going out of control have you heard? At the end of the day, it's your money.

As someone who has had a legitimate slamfire happen with the SKS, I say the Murrays pins are a must have.

The sks is what it is and that's a rugged battle rifle. If the Russians thought it needed a spring in there my guess is they would have kept it there. If it was designed to shoot thousands and thousands of rounds, driven hard and put away wet as it were, then what came in it is good enough for me. Having said that, I am under the impression that if you intend to shoot modern hunting ammo as opposed to fmj surplus stuff then the spring is a useful upgrade.

If you get a slamfire it is because the rifle was so filthy that the pin jammed or you didn't clean out the cosmoline when you bought it and the pin jammed. Murrays pin is the answer to the question no one asked.

Percentage of "NO"s here is approximately equal to percentage of motorists who use all-season tires in winter instead of dedicated snow tires :)

I dont use one ether. Waste of money? at this point for me I would say yes. Just make sure the firing pin rattles and all is good. A little tip for cleaning the hole in the bolt is to use a pipe cleaner works like a charm
