Folks,

Could you please tell me which would be a good 7.62 cal bench rest rifle? I have seen Musgrave RSA Target rifles, BSA CFT Target, Parker-Hale 1200 and T4 rifles. Are all of these rifles about the same?

I hope this isn't too broad a question

There nothing wrong with any of them for a started. I started out with a Lee Enfield Mk4 converted target for F-Class. A few people in the ORA uses Musgrave for TR and F-class so you can not go wrong there. One guy shoots that thing out to a 1000 yards and his is in .223. Hope that helps a little. But if you want to go all out spend the buck on a high end brenchrest action.

I like my PH1200TX/C3
I don't bench, and I haven't tried the other rifles you mention, but the PH is reliable and accurate. The sloppy bolt takes a bit of getting used to but I'm happy with it.

I don't imagine that you are considering one of these for a full blown, competitive benchrest rifle; none would be a first choice. Assuming decent condition, any could be acceptable for F(TR) Class target shooting. Personally, I would prefer the RSA, because I have one, and like it. The CFT is a solid top version of the CF2 sporting action. If you are considering purchasing one of these rifles, it would be nice if you could target the rifle first, and in addition, find out how many rounds have gone through the barrel. .308 isn't particularly hard on barrels, but these are older target rifles, and may have been shot a lot. A new barrel, installed, could cost $500.

The musgrave (RSA - Republic of South Africa - not a model but a country designation) has the stiffest action. I'd go with the Musgrave first, BSA single shot second...lastly the parker hale....
