Figured I'd toss this on the hunting forum since it seems to go hand in hand with spring turkey hunting.
Are these morel mushrooms? Any risk eating these? If they are good to go any recipes?

For those of us who are into mycology, proper recognition of species is paramount. Several edible species are so distinct that there is no chance of picking a similar and poisonous imposter. Chanterelles, boletus, and morels are in this category and are actively pursued.
I should point out that morels are considered to be "choice" and relatively rare, so enjoy the bounty. If you're reluctant to eat them, pick them and pm me for further instruction.

These *appear* to be morels. There are also false morels, or look alike morels. I grew up picking mushrooms with my mother and know that you better be **DAMN** sure you have a positive identification before you eat it. My mom would do a spore print and examine it under a microscope for specimens she was not positive of. When I was young she got sick for two days just from handling an unknown mushroom and possibly touching her mouth. They can cause liver failure and other bad things. I would leave it where it is.

How about the dark ones?
Is there such a thing as false morels and if so, are they toxic?

Mushrooms in the store = safe. Mushrooms everywhere else = forest decorations.

+1 rescue 911 had a whole series on people who were expert mushroom pickers and poisoned there who family.... Only like 1 out of the 20 people died. Normally I'd like those chances but I leave all wild mushrooms alone not worth the $5.99 risk.

For sure they are morels.
Soak in salt water for a bit to get the bugs out, sauté in butter.

If you don't want them send them to me please

Eat them and see what happens. Then you can tell the EMT that the internet told you they were safe

Yeah, just tell him/her that you learned to identify then from the internet ;)
Not trying to say go ahead, but please do be dam sure that they are indeed safe to eat before hand.
Tried some mushrooms back in Hi School and they made me feel kinda funny for a few hours.
Another buddy, not so good.
His lips swole up and his eyes got real glossy, his Mom was none to happy to see him like that.
