Max, use your IPhone to range your distances. No idea what the app is called but I saw it working and apparently accurate to a few feet.
Kind of a cellphone GPS - was very impressive.

Fed 168 Gold Medal Match is loaded with Sierra 168s. Wonderfully accurate bullet, shoots well in just about any rifle, shoot like a house on fire out to 600 yards and beyond..... and often breaks your heart somewhere around 900-1000 yards (this is the bullet with the infamous dynamic instability problem)
The 175 Fed GMM use Sierra 175 Matchkings, which will work out to 1000y.
Lapua factory 155 match ammo uses their GB491 bullet, which is one of the highest performance 155 target bullets made. Only "trouble" is that it can be quite sensitive, it may or may not shoot well in your rifle. If it shoots well for you at 100y (say, not much more than 1" five-shot groups), give it a try at 1000y. If it shoots poorly at 100y, done waste your time trying it at longer range.
At the Canadian Forces Sniper Comp last sept when I was spotting for some of the guys shooting the C3's,you could see the bullets start to do some whacky stuff at about 700m.600 and in they shot fine but 7,8 and 900m were tough.Issue ammo has a 168 sierra on it.

I'll do a quite search and see what app may do that .. i've used isnipe and ballistic fpe, I prefer isnipe, seem's to update more and have more stuff in it.. I just looked and Ballistic fpe doesn't seem to have and gps ranging. With motionX GPS you could get exact gps co-ordinates and calculate range off that I suppose. When the Iphone has full GPS signal in motionx gps it say's that it's accurate within 17 meter's so if you do 2 reading's there may be up to 34 meter's of error, as a guess. spyglass AR I'm going to download that one and see if it's good. and also theodolite pro and see how go that is!! if I remember I'll post the results here haha I wish I even had a place around the lowermainland to shoot up too 1000 yards me and my bro keep going to the mission club 300 is fun but kinda boring and I don't like paying 20 bucks when I could just go out into the bush.. i cant shoot my 2506 all that well either. but his 6x284 benchrest gun is pretty crazy!! and his 338 lapua I got a 1.5 inch group at 300.... I consider it all LUCK hehe

I am thinking of starting with this at a 1000 yards. Make sure you have the range marked exactly! Was out with some 223 stuff and thought I was shooting at 500yards when it was 539 yards. I lazed it after the first try. Was enough to get it off paper(8x11) for my first go

Spooksar did have a gps out there originally and we had 1940 yards by line of sight to work with. After some stakes were put in I found we still had a line of sight, further.
Kinda re thunk the windflags. Gonna use stakes that I have left over and staple surveyors tape to em. Its a start and will look at alternatives down the road.

I figured motionX is prolly the best... you can set waypoints and it tells you the distance down to .01 of a kilometer. 0.1 would be 100 meter's so 0.01 is 10 meter's which is easy to calculate into yards. with the coordinates you may get slightly smaller maybe it will say down to the meter but I highly doubt it. any of the actual etrex gps units would be better for this. happy shooting everyone!!
I have the ballistic tactical program and Isnipe, I think Ballistic is a little more accurate. I have only been to the range once with it though, mixed results. I just got a chronograph and a weathermate to read my atmosphere and true bullet velocity. I also have a leupold range finder. So with all that info I am going to set my target at 1000 yards next time out (35"x22" steel plate) and take some shots. I will be shooting my Browning m-1000 eclipse .300 wsm with winchester 180gr power points. It shoots 11/16" groups with those at 100 yards and I have not got any reloading gear yet so they will have to do for now. I will try both programs and let you guys know! Also should I be using G1 or G7 or other ballistic setting?

This ISnipe program is interesting but must be coupled with external atmospheric input, angle-indicator and range finder.
The Barrett's BORS only require a range-finder.
The range-finding scope (Burris Eliminator, Elcan DigitalHunter) only require atmospheric input.
What's more popular at long range match?

I use a printed ballistic chart from the JBM. Our distances are known distances 300, (400 in BC), 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900m.
I am sure Isnipe is great if you are shooting at targets with unknown distances such as gophers, rock-chucks etc where you are ranging and figuring out elevations come-ups on the spot.
