musings on an M14 project *caliber change*

as most of you know or can figure out, im from New Zealand ..

we have Trueflite barrells here in NZ .. they can copy any barrell you send to them..

im curious about changing the calibre of my m14 to say.. .260Rem or .243

wondering if anyone that knows a bit about the gas system can tell me if these rounds would cycle the bolt if i left the gas system untouched ?

springfield did do an m1a in 243 win- afaik, it was just a barrel swap without enhancements-you might have to experiment with the size of the gas hole

anything with a .308 case base ans similay approximate length should be adaptable. .243 is the most obvious choice.

Other potential choices include:
.260 Remington
7 mm-08 Remington
338 Federal
.358 Winchester
