I use ANYTHING with a HIGH deet content!!! I prefer sprays so that you don't have to smear it on with your hands and then damage your gun/car/sunglasses etc...

Cheers
Jay

what you have to go by is the deet content. brand doesn't matter. the higher the better and like Jay says watch out for plastic items when you have it on. I have a set of nikon binos with a plastic body that has my fingerprints on it:redface:

Canada has a girlieman limit on the deet percentage it allows its around 30% IIRC. if you can get to or import form the US stuff you can find close to 100% use that & hoard it. (i have some 100% Muskol from the mid 80's that I still use on special occasions- just don't rub your eyes when you have it on:eek: )

some of the fromulations advertise 8 hour protection but the percentage of deet is still pretty low (i think they multipled 24 hours by the deet % to arrive at the 8 hours)

I have bought 95% muskol in Canada.

Well - In the good ol' days, when I worked on mining exploration crews, the only stuff that worked was a product called Old Woodsman, made by Brecks out of Sherbrooke Quebec. IIRC
It looked, smelled, and tasted like creosote. Guys would get a good glaze on after 3 or 4 days worth of application, and take on a much darker complexion. Regrettably, its no longer being made - something to do with lab rats expiring when soaked with the stuff. Too bad...
Good thing I still have a few bottles - I break it out for special events!

The most I can find around here is 30%. It seems to do the job. When I go to Labrador(where flies came from) I can usually find some 95% deet in a little tiny bottle. A few dabs of that and you are good for the day!

I still have some 95 deet Muskol, but I only use it when the mozzies are really bad. That stuff can't be real good for a person.... I noticed that it takes the color off of beer cans when you have it on your hands!

I have a bit of the 95% Muskol left, the current Canadain Content is 28%

Even the low % stuff seems to work just fine most of th etime if you are good witht he applications of it.:)

95% Deet was available in Yellowknife the last time I was there. It was in that general store by Latham Island. I can't remember the name of the store but I think it begins with an "H". That was the most effective stuff I have used. A note of caution, I seem to recall it melting plastic.

Never seen it in a store in Canada, but you can get it on the net. I have some and it's sweet!

Also, treating your clothes with Permethrin will help a great deal. Again, you can find it on the net.

*hint* this is what is used by troops overseas ;)
