I work in some of the worst places for flies and mosquitoes. I tried almost everything, many of them being 98-100% DEET. The best, so far, is Watkin's.

Made in Canada, doesn't smell like s**t like most other repellents, and works very well.

The only thing is that it's almost twice the price of other products....so I steal it from the geologist's supply. :D
 
Some 95% Muskol
& Some old army fly dope it is just as good but make sure your hands are free of it before you touch your fishing rod or LINE.:eek: ;) :D DAN>>>
 
anything with lots of deet works but how come 30% deet with 70% filler (water?) costs the same as 100% deet ?:confused:
 
After hunting on the web I found something called Sawyer's Maxi-Deet which come in a 2 oz spray bottle and is 100% deet. I ordered a 12 pack which after shipping ($30 cdn) and GST/pst (and assuming they'll let it in) will come out at around $ 10 cdn a bottle before shipping . I can let 5 or 6 go to fellow Nutz at that price plus shipping just PM me 1st come 1st served. (standard caution: use at your own risk)
 
When I was posted in Petawawa one of my MCLP's told me to take the vitamin B1. You load up on it a few days before going into the field and you excrete it in you sweat, the bugs don't like it. I used to do it and never had a problem.

Getting "smoky" also helps. a combination of deet and smoke works awesome. and I dont mean cigarette smoke in case any smokers were thinkin that. build alittle fire and trow a bunch of leaves or something on it and let smoke get all over you. works great.
 
chances are if you are getting 95-99 deet in muskol, you're getting some old stock- the new stuff is 28-30 % because it was causing some kids harm ( same reason as we got seatbelts. bike helmets, kid seats- gees we must have been tough kids- never had none of that stuff)-better hang on to what you've got if you can beacuse you probably won't be able to get it again-

I would have to agree :D. I have not used any type of bug repelent for as long as I can remember, the bugs must not like my stink. Everyone else around me seems to get eaten alive.
 
Where I hunt there are no biting insects by the time the season opens in the fall.However,on those rare occaisions when I am bear hunting in late spring,I use muskol.
