Muskox Hunt

is it normal to get within 50 yards of a muskox?

I shot mine at around 40 yards. Sadly they tend to clump up to stand and fight when they're threatened. The trick is getting inside their "danger zone" where they decide that running isn't feasible. If you can then it's a lock. But sometimes getting there isn't straightforward.

I was fortunate with this hunt. This group was on the edge of a cliff and the only way out was either down an impossible drop or right by us. Getting off my shot was pretty much guaranteed. I had ample opportunity and tags to get a second one as well but we decided to let the rest go. One was definitely enough. I'll be able to fill up the freezer with other animals soon enough anyway.

Perfect hunting story for kids like me that are basking in 12 degree weather and yearning for the next opening for anything big. Awesome lowkey hunt for the two of you it sounds like. Thanks for posting. Amazing technology can create a connection from otherwise insurmountable distances.
