Came home last night from a meeting just in time to see a muskrat go waddling past the steps. I would guess he got froze out and decided to move now that it`s so warm. I had three or four houses on the dam but the water is shallow. Good thing my dog was sound asleep in the house, she tries to defend the place but is getting on in years, not real brave either.

I heard one time they sometimes get forced out. Not sure if that's true or not.

The bloody things have been moving since October, for some reason there have been quite a few spotted in town.People mistake them for rats and then the sh__ hits the fan.

i have eaten lots of marsh hair . we have a game dinner down at the lake once a year and thy serve lots of it very good eating DUTCH

I would eat "Swamp Rabbit" again. Also had beaver at the Port Hardy game dinner in 1975. The entire beaver was laid out on a table; very fine grain to the meat and perhaps a little oily. There is nothing wrong with cougar nor lynx. Bear is fine. Roosevelt elk would have to rate as the best wild game I have ever eaten.

I ate raccoon once and I hardly got my butt off the toilet for 24 hrs.
Never again !
I shot a plump fall time ground hog on the farm one day and as dad and I were unsupervised by any lady folk that day ......we ate it figuring it would be just like rabbit ..... Same field right ? Well not so much. Pretty tough but not too bad.

Regards

We had what looked to be a mink or something similar crawl out from under our back deck when we dropped a big ash tree right beside it. I guess the bugger decided it was time to get outta dodge. Wish i had a rifle or at least a camera atthe time.

Reminds me of Boxing Day trip to the outdoor range. The three of us had a visitation by a lone muskrat. We ceased fire to get some pics, apparently one of us was too close!
Nothing funnier than the attempted attack of the muskrat at close distances........:D

I am scared of Muskrats. One time one bit onto the bottom of my 'trousers' and would not let go. I freaked out.

Also, just so you know, they jump like kangaroos and can can cover ground like this so fast you can't turn and run in time.

A buddy of mine is an expert at wacking them in mid air with a shovel.
