As mentioned in another thread, I recently made a tumbler for using the stainless pins. Well after a few batches I am quickly learning what I like and hate about using this method. I also have started thinking/making gadgets to make the job easier/quicker. This thread is about sharing ideas and gadgets that make it easier. I will start it off with the following two items:
-One is a release magnet for picking up loose pins.
-The other is a cap I added a hose barb to. My tumbler uses two of these 6" ends, so screw this one in one end, open the other and turn on the tap - it rinses from the bottom getting rid all the suds, and dirty water. Before this I would dump as much of the dirty water out as possible, refill and repeat - and it seemed the suds were endless. Now I just turn on the tap and let it go for a few minutes.

If you have other items or ideas, please share them.

If you just check the other two recent threads on stainless tumblers, there are several home builds including mine. I bought my pins from "Rooky" on here. They are expensive, but I could never go back to the vibratory type since I have used the pins.

I like that washing system. I will incorporate it into my container when I get around to building a PVC one.

As for the pins, I pour off the water then leave them in my media separator. No point in drying or removing them. Scoop into tumbler next go around.

I dont have a seperator yet. Do you find they actually seperate all the pins, or do you still need to check/dump each case? I do dry my pins, and the drum with a fan - dont have to, just do.

I have the cabelas media seperator and it separates all of the pins, never have a pin left in the brass anymore.

I picked up a large funnel at CTC that has a very fine screen that fits in the base just before the spout, I pour all the contents of the tumbler in it first over the sink to remove the water, then rinse a bit before using the seperator.

Sounds like I need to get me one of them there things. :)

Not one pin in about 1000 .308 brass and few hundred 9mm.

Still pretty new to all this but the media separator works flawless. I still check while priming, but always a bit dissapointed when I don't find anything.

you NEED a media separator.

I hate to admit my idea was not as good as just gettting a media separator.

But yea - I think thats the only way to go with the stainless steel media.

I tried vibrating it out with and even with 9mm and 10 mins of vibrating, there was still some left in some of the cases.

In this pic you see that ive emptied the tumbler full of brass & media into a vibrator with a double bowl setup.

The media and left over water drained into the bottom bowl.

The brass was suppose to have all the media out BUT not all gets out. Maybe 2% is left.

Ohh well so much for cutting down prep time.

I found a decent way to dry the brass after tumbling and separating the pins. I put a dishcloth on a cookie sheet, spread out the brass, put it in the oven and turned on the oven light. Just enough heat to dry the brass leaving no water spots. Works great.

Ohh GEeez - I almost forgot to mention as possibly a good tip ?

I BOIL my water.

I pour it into tumbler along with the Lemi-Shine & the dish detergent ( Palmolive - cuz its tuff on grease but soft on my hands..lol_)

2-4hrs later clean brass.

BTW Im not sure if this makes a difference. I just boiled the water right from the start thinking its got to be better than cold water.
