Must you carry your Firearm registration papers at all times?

I keep my original reg certs stored safely at home and photocopies of each in a flexible 3-ring binder in my range bag. No room in my wallet for any more paper after my car and motorcycle regs and insurance slips.

Stormtrooper's idea of scanned copies on a smartphone is a good idea. May have to scan mine and put them on my Blackberry.

Ive made a few copies of mine. Orginal is at home, stored safely. Two copies are laminated, one for my wallet, one in my gun case, one is scanned and stored on my phone, and another scanned on a USB thumb drive that is in my truck at all times. Ive probably gone overboard, but it only took me a few minutes to get all of these in place and Im always sure to have a copy of my cert on my person in one form or another.

I put my registration certs on top of the photo copier and copied them all onto single pieces of paper. Then I just leave the copies in a hidden spot in my car when I'm at the range or out in the woods.

you do need to have the registration documents with the gun, in the scenario you over heard, it takes a few days to receive that document and in the mean time a receipt of sale can be used as a temporary registration document within reason of the date of sale

Correct. I've done this all the time with guns I've just purchased and want to get some use out of right away. Never been checked tho.

You want to keep all the relevant paper work for your gun, the receipt the registration, the notice of registration, everything, it will help you out if you ever get into trouble. You dont have to carry all this info with you though while you are using/transporting the firearm, just the registration

LOL some of us don't have THAT many certs. :D

Neither do I, but I'm working on it :)

I also have copies of my dad's and friend's certs, as their guns are sometimes stored in my cabinet. And photocopies of the bills of sale/receipts for my own guns.

i live in new brunswick and yes you have to have you reg cards or they will take them last year(2010) the rangers and police joined up to fully enforce this rule which do not bother me i just put the card in my walet and away i go no problems. as for buying a gun and taking it home the receipt just proves that you bought it that day where there is no waiting to take it home. and you could go out shooting right there and then just keep the receipt with you so they know it is processed by a gun dealer and is registered
