muzzle brake etiquette?

Get the hacksaw from the truck and place it on the shooting bench in full view. Should get the hint.

I've had a gentleman shoot a braked 50bmg beside me....on a 10m action range....

Needless to say it was slightly disturbing while I was trying to plink away with my tiny 9mm, but it did add an interesting new challenge to shooting ;)

With that said I don't think its unreasonable to shoot with a muzzle brake and it should be expected just as it is normal for brass to be flying all over the place.

At my club, If I am using a Brake or some one is using a brake I try to get them to get the muzzle / brake In front of the wall

I walked up to the rifle range one day and someone was using a new boss rifle in a magnum cal and the muzzle was 6 - 10 inch inside the wall and when he let one off the walls would rattle

it was beyond loud ( I had on good muffs and could feel the sound/ blast shake me)

I don't mind it, when I end up next to someone with a sbr or something with a brake I just try to time my shooting to when they aren't. Alternatively if I bring my svt out and there's lots of empty benches I will set up as far down the line as I can out of courtesy, if it's packed at the range then there's already a lot of noise going on and I'm going wherever there's an open space. It's a gun range and noise and flying brass is just a fact of life.

Reminds of the time I was unfortunate enough to have a gentlemen who was a lefty and was sitting to the right of me, jam his bench right up the divider between us. He then broke out his .338 with a brake and a disturbingly short barrel. He was literally blowing objects off of my bench. While it was immature of me, I took out my SVT-40 and started immediately rapid firing every time he was about to pull the trigger, good times.

I took some sandbags that where in the back of my truck and made a lil barricade on the end of the shooting table. Didn't effect my shooting and people started saying good morning again.

Don't be the jerk who sets up ~10' adjacent and aligns the brakes discharge to blast my shooting glasses off and then knocks me out with the concussion from the second shot as I turn to politely ask you to move your position... Otherwise blast away.

A little respect for others goes a long ways, if I'm shooting something loud I'll let people know and give them a chance to decide what to do. There's nothing worse then having some one blast just when you are ready to pull the trigger on a accuracy test.
