Muzzle Brake for Remington 700 SPS

Hello all, just picked up a Remington 700 SPS .308 with a pre-threaded barrel, looking for a muzzle brake to install, advice, tips, insight and guidance as to an appropriate muzzle brake. also a good place to purchase in Canada..............thanx.........Smitty223
 
No I have not but have fired/shot numerous .308's in the past and although,(I agree the recoil is not that bad), it does lend a degree of focus by cutting down on the overall recoil a little more.

I'd love a muzzle brake on my .308 only so I can spot my own hits and the recoil reduction is only a benefit... I would look at Coretac's muzzle brakes, they are like the Sako brakes
 
Im guessing you got the 700 SPS tactical with the threaded barrel?

With the factory hogue stock on mine recoil was so light I could spot my 200 yard gong hits. The recoil is super light on the 308. The shorter barrel does give it some muzzle flip though making it a bit more difficult than say a 26" rifle.

yes sir you are correct, why do you suppose they threaded the barrel if generally there is no absolute need for a brake????

Marketing man... take a gun you already have thats a hot seller... thread the barrel give it a Tacticool name and jack the price!

Remember Remington is an American company... they get all the goodies down there like suppressors!
 
The 20"' SPS doesn't really need a muzzle brake. If you are losing the sight picture when you pull the trigger you might want to work on finding the right body position behind your shoulder stock.

Of course, it needs to be said that only girls sit down to shoot. Manly men lay in the mud; and the blood; and the beer.

The muzzle brake on my Savage 10BAS is a wonderful thing. It makes the neighbouring shooters move away from me at the range; it allows me to teach 11 yr. old kids and 65 yr. old ladies to shoot a 2" gong at 200m with one shot without hurting themselves. It makes me very happy, and looks ###y, which makes me very happy. Do I need it ?

No.
 
I tried out my new PAST recoil pad yesterday with my 308. It works great. It goes over your shoulder, under your coat, so your shooting mates need not know what a girly-man you are.
 
i have a break on my 308. I never put it on for recoil in the shoulder, I put it on to keep better sight retention. works great !

I got the same gun about a month ago. I think I'll end up ordering from Coretac. They said they could make me one the same contour as the barrel, I don't really want one of those big blocks on the end. Might look goofy with such a short barrel.
