I picked up a savage 110 in .338 and am in love with the low level of recoil it provides due to the muzzle brake. I have the same rifle in a model 12 LRP in .260 and would like to install a similar brake to reduce recoil to close to nothing so I can better spot my shots. It will be used at the range only and the added noise will be no issue. My question is who would I contact to thread my barrel for a brake. What is the wait time? What brake would you recommend? Also would swapping out the barrel for a pre-fit that is threaded for a brake be more advantageous? I can always sell my factory barrel as it only has about 50 rounds on it.

Insite Arms Heathen brake, I replaced the stock savage barrel on my .338 with a KS arms barrel and had them thread it and install the brake. Both companies were great to deal with.

+1 on Insite Arms Heathen brake. Works great on my SRA-A1 26" 260 Rem. Easy to sight shoots.

Heathen on the bottom.

There are many gunsmiths that could thread your barrel for a brake. Wait time would depend on the smith. I would advise picking out and getting your muzzle brake before sending it to get your threads cut. That way they can match the thread specs to the brake, time the brake ( not that important if it is user index-able ) as well as bore the brake to be in line with the rifle bore.

As far as just buying a prefit that is threaded, unless your current barrel is in need of replacing, you wont come out ahead. A prefit will be +500$ and another 100$ for threading. While threading can range between 150$-350$ with a brake.

Thanks for the info. That is exactly what I was looking for! Here is one additional question that is floating around in my head... Is there a type of brake that clamps on to the barrel?

I ended up going with Grizzlys clamp on "Defcon 1" brake. Insite was moving to a new shot and could send me a brake but not thread my barrel at the moment.

I have the rifle for sale in the EE and have received a few general requests for pictures regarding the Grizzly Gun Works brake installed on the LRP in this thread. So here is a picture as requested.
