NavyCuda had brought this up in another thread, and it kind of got me interested in the idea. I kind of feel stupid admitting that, until recently, I never knew that muzzle brakes actually reduced recoil/muzzle flip.

So my dad has a Norinco M14... and I was wondering if there was a muzzle brake I could get for his rifle, which would offer a very noticeable recoil reduction on a standard length barrel.... one which we would not have to modify the barrel for in any way.

I did a search on this here, and only found one or two threads, both of which required some previous knowledge of these items, so i was pretty lost. I did however see that Smith video of the full auto M14.... and holy crap... that brake they are using works amazing.

I would imagine, assuming my memory serves me right, that since the thread on the Norc barrel are metric, that I would be looking at a custom part, probably manufactured by one of our Canadian parts makers (DLASK, Rauch, S&J, etc). Yet I don't see anything listed on these sites.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I believe the Smith Navy brake fits our Norc M14s. Its carried by one or two Canadian suppliers and, to the best of my knowledge, is no different than any other M14 navy brake from Smith Enterprises. I'm torn between it and the Vortex flash hider myself.

The Smith has the same threading as the Norc barrel? The Norc is metric isn't it?

How much do these go for, and which retailers here sell them? Is Alberta Tactical Rifle one of them?

Edit: Ah i see... about $135US. But man, if it dampens recoil and muzzle flip like in the video, that would be well worth it.

Dlask had some with the metric thread. I bought 2 and have them mounted. Be aware, the rifle is not FAR louder, for the shooter, than it was before, with the OEM flash hider.

IS far louder you mean?

I don't see it as being a big deal since I would of course be wearing hearing protection. I don't see them anywhere on the Dlask site though.

Was there a BIG difference in recoil/flip that you noticed?

It will attach using the castle nut (from your norc), all you need is a US made set screw.

*oops, nevermind, i see they come with their own set screw:D
