I am going to attempt a Muzzle Brake but I would like to know what the normal difference should be between the bullet OD and the Muzzle Brake's ID in other words what the clearance should be?
JP Rifles use and suggest at least 40 thou above bullet diameter for
clearance.Saves the possibility of shaving.
Others will have their own ID recommendations but I trust JP and have used his products for years.
The exit hole I usually make 15 to 20 thou larger than the bullet diameter, and the internal baffles can be the same or slightly larger, it seems to make little difference.
Had a customer in the shop last week with accuracy issues on a fancy custom rig out of the U.S. his exit hole was 10 thousandth's smaller than the bullet. Go figure. David.

I guess he was getting a good modified choke pattern at 45 yards. And yes we can all make mistakes.
I think the moderators should look into setting up a new page just for "Confessions" I for one could provide some good laughs. David.
