Just got a muzzle brake for my 858 and put it on. I can get 11/2 more turns out of it before its tight, and off center. How tight is it supposed to be? If I used a tool to turn it I might, and thats a big might get two turns out of it so the notch lines up with the spring pin. Am I making much ado about nothing?

Nope can't get that third of a turn.

I bought the Wolverine large muzzle brake. It screws on to slightly past the notch at full tight. I turn it back about 1/8th turn and the pin locks in. When I wiggle it, it has a slight amount of free play. Not sure which brake you bought. Until I give this one a good wringing out to see if the slight play has any effect I have no other thoughts to help.

Mine is the large one also with six large cutouts. It has a slight bit of movement when it is locked in. I could turn it in one more turn but would have to make another notch for the locking pin.
I was wondering what other experience people have had with this.

Or cut another thread. I have to look at the barrel and brake and see what my options are and if I have the correct tap and die.
Its probably not really an issue but it bugs me.

Well I thought about the problem and the solution came to me. I put the brake in a vice and using a hand file, filed the thread end till it fit flush and tight against the barrel. Took about two minutes and I had to remove very little material. No more wobble. Now I need a nice day to see if this thing works. Its been snowing and cold here in central Alberta.

So for anyone else that can't tighten up their brake so its snug on the barrel, there you go.

Or you can just get a sheet of emery cloth & hand rub the barrel end of the brake till it will catch the next notch

Oh & not to rub it in but its sunny 60 F at 10 am here in the Okanagan :D

If anyone needs to clean up threads or just add a little there is a thing called a thread file. Mine are from Snap-on, but different manufacturers make them. There are several in Imperial and metric. You need about 4 to complete the set in different thread pitches.
