Muzzle brake questions

I know muzzle brakes come in a wide variety of price range $60 - $300+. Seems the norm is about $200-$250....

My first question is any idea what the average cost is to get the muzzle threaded? My rifle is pretty well a full 1.00” at the muzzle.

Question #2, if you want to shoot with and without a brake at times.....does it affect the load?
 
Prices will vary on threading your muzzle depending on style of brake you choose. If you got with a self indexing style it’s pretty basic, just thread muzzle and time the brake where you want it and tighten the nut. If you chose a smith indexed brake that has to be tapered into the barrel it costs more. I’d say $150-$250 depending on who does it
 
I have threaded bare barreled actions as cheap as $50... with no fitting of anything... $75 to $100 is not out of line. Brakes that require indexing and boring $150.

Anything you add to your barrel will change harmonics.

I personally don't like brakes that are threaded onto the end of a barrel. Same goes for clamp on mounts.

That being said, rifles/pistols with threaded brakes can be very accurate.

One thing you need to decide is what your brake will be put on to accomplish.

Some brakes are made in such manner to deflect muzzle blast to alleviate muzzle jump or twist. Some are made to compensate for muzzle jump, recoil and muzzle flash.

I prefer those made to reduce felt recoil but each person has their own needs.

Choose your brake carefully and understand what its been designed to do.

Thanks everyone. My ONLY reason I thought about a brake was to help reduce a bit of muzzle jump and keep the scope on targets at long range! Felt recoil is minimum now and the gun shoots 1/4 MOA.....the more I read the more it sounds like a brake may affect that accuracy?? Again, I’m only trying to stay on target.....thoughts, suggestions??
 
Brake should not affect accuracy but it may shift your point of impact a bit, you might just have to zero your gun with the brake on it and then shoot it with and with out it on the see what the difference is on point on impact. All on my prs guns have brakes on them and all are very accurate. If I shoot them with out the brake accuracy is still there but there is a very minor shift in point of impact.
