What are you guys using?

What is the most effective muzzle brake? Do they normally bother other shooters?

Muzzle Brake or Flash Hider, whats the consensus?

In service rifle there is no need to hide your position so there's no advantage in using a flash hider. Muzzle brakes on the other hand will help you control your muzzle in rapid fire.

Some shooters are bothered by the redirected gas from different muzzle devices. They are louder and usually send an annoying shock wave to the shooters on the sides.

I'm using a vortex flash hider but that's just because I like looking cool in the mirror.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there a muzzle brake that anyone has used that has less of an outward shockwave? I was looking at the Neit crusader, PWS FSC 556 ect.... Basically looking for opinions based on use in matches. Muzzle control is great, but not at the expense of pissing off others.

I currently use a PWS on one of my guns - doesn't seem to bother others, but distances from one shooting position to the next is pretty generous on our range.

We shall see about pissing of your shooting mates.:)

Honestly though, assuming your shooting mates have similar interests or are doing the same type of shooting it should not be an issue.

I often had shooters concerned about hitting me with their brass, no worries. At one milsurp shoot I got absolutely buried in Garand brass. No worries. I've also had some irritating burns from brass. Again, part of the game.

Double plugs are always an option for shooters and likely we all should be wearing them to protect our hearing long term anyway.

Actually, that was what I liked about this brake over the others. It doesn't shoot a bunch of gas to the side. I took the other brake off because it was annoying to other shooters and ran just the birdcage for last year. This one I ran last fall without anyone even noticing it was a brake when they were shooting beside me.

Works pretty slick.

I'll check it out the next time I see at CQB. Was my brake bothersome when we were side by each at 100 last plinking day?

Didn't bother me any. That one you have is much like my old one. It tends to be worse in prone positions because all that gas has to go straight out to the side and none can dissipate downwards.
It works great, but may be annoying to some.

Hmmmm, well it helps to bug my buddy TOPSOIL that is a good thing :D. The SOB will probably still beat me though.

Apologies to all others.
