muzzle brake ??? will this fit????

The barrel will have no shoulder for the brake to shoulder against, so it will have to be Loctited in place.

or if the thread length is just right the brake with proper internal flange can rest against muzzle the same way as some barrels without shoulder are fitted in Mausers mod 98 rifles.
 
Then again, why thread it???? It could easily be sweated on with the proper mandrel set up or even attached with low temperature silver solder.
 
I believe a 1/2"-28 tpi would also work.

That small would depend on the caliber. I believe the general consensus is to use as large a thread as the muzzle allows, not the smallest the bore allows.

.30 caliber would be fine but anything larger should really have larger threads.
